While I desperately want to like Corel products, they have an ongoing habit of annoying me greatly.

List of Annoyances:
1. WordPerfect. Never supported Japanese or Chinese character-sets in this increasingly global world. Verdict: Annoying. I switched to LibreOffice years ago.
2. Aftershot Pro. Purchased from Bibble and looked like it was to really take off with Corel. But then they fired the entire Bibble Team and seemed incapable of updating the program themselves. No new updates came for over a year. Verdict: Annoying. But because I love Aftershot's workflow and interface, I continue to use it
3. PaintShop Pro x6. Touted to be a good reasonably powerful alternative to Photoshop and I chose it over Xara Designer 9. Seems like a good choice so far, but inability to install even a simple service pack is: Annoying.

Today I tried removing the program, and installing the service pack thinking perhaps it was in fact the entire program with the service pack added. But no, I had to re-install PSPx6 and then tried again to reinstall ServicePack 1 which promptly failed. Once again, i waste 30 minutes.

Does anyone know how to get the service pack installed? Is there any trick?

Usually it just installs on its own. No direct word from Corel on why it would fail after they fixed the other issue.

Have you tried the trick of creating a new admin account and installing SP1 from there?

For those having trouble with installing the service pack, the following worked for me.

Uninstall PSPX6

Download the TRIAL version (this is the same as the full version) and install it. You will end up with version 16.1.48

As you say they fired the Jasc development team to save money and still expect us users to keep paying for their free lunch.
They need to spend the money to fix what they have broken or lose customers, that's how business works. I have stayed loyal to PSP since Corel took it over but this debacle with X6 and SP1 is the last straw, loyalty only goes so far.

If only Corel had realised that they can't milk Jasc's good name forever, all of this would not have happened.
Too much hype (and there sure was a huge amount of it) and too little action.

I wasn't saying that the users should keep paying, but more explaining what happens when not enough money is coming in.
I shall remain loyal to PSP, it does what I want it to do, irritations and all. I am sure the SP1 annoyance will get sorted, they've had enough feedback to shake them up a bit :-)

Do any of the programmers actually ever use the program?

Likely not, maybe they use the Mudhut product.

I have installed, used and uninstalled SP1.
They have done something weird to the image zooming (or whatever the official description for that might be).
I don't use Tabbed Documents, never have.
So when I have images open in the workspace there are times I want to make them smaller so I can see a few at the same time.
Doing this before SP1 was not problem, it behaves the same as in X5, scroll the mouse button and the image will get bigger or smaller.
After SP1, I do the same and the border around the image remains the same size, but the photo/graphic becomes smaller, leaving an ever increasing border.
No use to man or beast, so I have rolled back my system and will stick with X6 (32-bit) as it was.
I can live with a nano second slower launching :-)

Joëlle
I am having the same zoom issue on both 64 bit and 32 bit versions, rendering X6 utterly unusable. I was interested to see that you have uninstalled SP1, how did you manage to do that? Otherwise, it's back to X5 and a less zippy experience. Thanks

I've tried to install Service Pack 1 both internally from within PaintShopPro x6 and by downloading it using Firefox.
I tried several times over the last 2 days and recieved this message each time:

file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted;
contact your software vendor.

Does anyone know how to avoid this problem? Why is it happening? Thanks!

This is the same problem I posted on the 7th.
By some fluke of fate I managed to contact Corel support and this is their answer :-
"Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.
There's a current issue with the recently released service pack 1 for PaintShop Pro X6, kindly refer to the link below for more information.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 14#p278514
Two temporary solutions are proposed,
1. Uninstall PaintShop Pro X6, including Creative and Ultimate Creative Collection then install Service Pack 1. Once installed, reinstall the remaning plugins.
2. Do not install the service pack. Wait until the new version for a couple of days and re-download it again.
I apologize for this.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions".

The link given takes you to the Corel 'solution' posted earlier - which doesn't works.

I have tried again this morning, having done the suggested 'waiting for the new version in a couple of days'.

Still doesn't work.

Is there actually going to be a 'new version' of SP1 or do Corel think that they have already solved it

Technically you can't uninstall the service pack. But, you do have two other options:
  • 1. Roll back to a restore point that was set prior to installing SP1 like Joelle did.
    2. Uninstall X6 and reinstall from either the CD or the original .exe file that you previously downloaded.
I too have reverted to pre-SP1 as there are more issues than just the image window not staying with the image when zooming. Unfortunately many of them are random which means the development team will have a hard time figuring out what is causing them.

Hello,
I just noticed that my order PaintShopPro Ultimate was dated August 23, 2013, so I was under the 90 days warranty.
After more than an hour of searching, reading dozens of pages and have once again registered PaintShopPro Ultimate(1), I finally received a code for my "90 day free warranty support".
So I could relate the problem of SP1 update to Corel Support which I also said to come and read this forum to see that I was not alone.

Wait and see

(1)As this was an update of X5, it was automatically registered, but not with the right name, so without sending email.

This method for installing with the SP1 works like a charm. Thanks for that Tony. I downloaded the trial and installed on my second laptop (Win 7) just to see what X6 performed like with the SP1 included. The zoom windows is a big failure for me so I am glad i did not attempt to install the SP1 on my Desktop (XP Home) and my first Laptop (Win 7).
So that makes 3 instances of Win 7 where I have been able to install X6 with no problems. Wonders me why so many others are having trouble with installing X6 on Win 7 machines. (Each time I have accepted the 64 and 32 bit versions )

SP1 is broken. I hope Corel has got the message. I'm spending a lot of time stuffing around with a workflow that is now a lot more convoluted than it use to be.

Load a photo. Use the Burn tool. See if you get any changes. Then use the Undo arrow to step backwards so that the Burn affects vanish. Do they? No they don't. Well not for me they don't. But magically if you zoom in or out the Burn affects magically reappear. Several key strokes to see what should happen automatically.

Does anyone at Corel test changes at all? Is there an error checking routine at Corel? Or are us users being unpaid beta testers?

Not funny Corel. Not funny at all. Here you had an opportunity to steal some of the business away from Adobes stuff up and you dropped the ball.

I wonder if a user/business could sue Corel for malpractice? I have years invested in Corel/PSP. Only to have Corel have me spending my time working around their slack work ethic.

I tried installing the Trial version, but I got an error message saying the CAB file was corrupt.
I'm not sure if it really is or not, but the whole thing has been so time consuming I gave up. I'm in Beijing where the internet is so tightly monitored and laden with state-controlled spying software that it seldom works and 80% of all western websites are blocked. So I can't be sure what's wrong with any of my downloads.

I'll wait until a fixed service pack 1 is available and try again.

Post by ppmcsween »

Since I've updated PSP X6 PRO with Service Pack 1, the option (Preferences) called FIT WINDOWS TO IMAGE WHEN ZOOMING is definately broken. I uninstalled completely PSP X6, then re-installed it without the patch and the option worked fine.
Then I re-Installed the Service Pack 1 patch and the same problem happened. I won't install the Patch until Corel comes out with a patch. I'm a die hard fan since 2007, first time I have an issue. I run Windows 8.1 Pro. Thanks for working on this Corel.

Hi

Actually our updated SP1 version was released last week. Here you can get release note in detail for reference.

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 30#p278626

We are really apologise with the error we made for SP1 update, but we also tried our best to resolve this issue within 2 days after getting the 1st report from user. We do really care about with our user's feedback and wish to offer best service to our customer as far as possible. Sorry again and hopefully you can continue to enjoy PSP with your work.

Hi,

Remove all old downloads of SP1 then download today's "new" version of SP1.
Easy installation on both my 32 and 64 bit Ultimate PaintShopPro X6.
Problem solved in my case. 8)
