It seems that the installer starts the 32 bit msi, even if you are running the 64 bit Version only.
To install the Service Pack just do the following:
1.) Start the installation an run it, until you get the license agreement dialogue. Do not click anything then.
2.) Go to your temporary files directory (on my computer it's "C:\Users\Michael\AppData\Local\Temp". There should be a "Corel PaintShop Pro X6" Directory there. Copy it to some other place, after that agree to the license agreement, start the Installation, get the error message and close it. Then the installer deletes the content of the temporary directory. For that reason you should copy it before.
3.) Go to your copied "Corel PaintShop Pro X6" Directory, then open the subdirectory "16.1\Setup". Delete "PSPPro.msi", Copy "PSPPro64.msi" and rename the copy to "PSPPro.msi". Then go to the "16.1" subdirectory and run "Setup.exe". After that it works!
Thanks Michael
This solution worked great for me :)

Yes, I have the same error!
I am running PSP X6 64-bit on Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit (German Version). I also do not have X6 32-bit.

Dear PaintShop Pro Users:

Great thank you for your discussion here also especially appreciate Tadjio to initial this topic after SP1 release immediately. About SP1 update issue, I would like to represent PaintShop Pro team to say sorry here since it's a existed bug after our investigation. Although the issue was occurred specific case and doesn't break any existing work for PSP. But we will still try our best to resolve this issue in short time to express our sincerity.

Basically the issue just occurs when you (1) Only PSPX6 64-bit version installed on your machine + (2) Creative Content or Creative Collection or Both installed already. Once your environment is matched two conditions above and the issue could be reproduced 100%. It doesn't relate with Operation System or installed languages.

Now we are working on this issue urgently and will try to refresh current SP1 version in next days. For the user who cannot install current SP1 version right now due to above condition, tentatively solution I will suggest you re-install PSPX6 again to get the SP1 update before creative content / collection installed. Or please wait our new update and re-download it again later. Sorry for inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Cheers

Thank you michaelfwoern - I followed your instructions and the Service Pack 1 update worked fine. My system was Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit with only PSP X6 64 bit installed. It would seem to be very poor QA at Corel to let something like this slip. This is my first experience with Corel - hope it isn't always like this.

Thanks again.

I think it is only fair to point out that it was not just 64-bit-only installations but those also using X6 Ultimate Collections.
Having said that, I am very grateful to Michael for coming up with a workaround :)

It's doing it to me when I tried updating this morning. I've tried updating through X6 and with the downloaded SP1. Neither worked. I too only have the 64 bit version installed.

I saw the workaround, but that's too much rigmarole for me. Hopefully Corel will fix this eventually.

here we go again, do an update and break something else, You fools at Coral have broken the "fit image to window when zooming in or out"

This is getting utterly stupid, do these people actually use this program? Do they actually have any brains?

Now with every single image (an I have multiple open at once) I no have to Ctrl W with every single image zoom, you just doubled my workload FOOLS

FIX IT you morons, like I have said before I will never buy any product upgrades again , these FOOLS don't care about their customers just some brainless programmers playing with themselves.

I'm sorry for the language but this is just beyond the pale, I'm trying to get work done and these idiots make it harder at every turn.

Hi

Thank you for your patient! We've tried our best to resolve this update issue and now the fixed program is on-line. You have two ways to update SP1 as below.

1. Re-download the Service Pack 1 from http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=7100001 , it's a easy way for all people to update the new SP1 if you ever tried to update SP1 through "Check for update" before Nov, 6th.

2. Using "Check for Update" is another way. If you ever tried to update SP1 through "Check for update" in past days, please be noted to remove all cache from C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads before you activate "Check for update". Then it just can make sure SP1 will be re-download from our server again. (Refer to the attached file to make sure you've seen this DB)

Again, sorry for making this update issue and hopefully it doesn't break your work too much. Of course we will try to cover more test cases in future to avoid this kind of problem as far as possible. Thank you for your understanding. :)

Thanks but that doesn't work either. I downloaded the new SP1 from the link above and when I run it the updater starts then says "no update for your installed software is required at this time" and the updater closes.
From within PSP6 I go Help/Check for Updates and get "There are no updates available at this time"

and yes I removed all cache from C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads before hand but still got the above, so back to square one.
Do I now have to uninstall the whole thing and start from scratch? Looks that way, thanks.

Yes I too confirm - "fit image to window when zooming in or out" is now broken since SP1 - most frustrating - any light at the end of the tunnel on this one ???
Not sure who's the worst - "Optus Aust" or "Corel USA" :( :x

Followed instructions carefully and just tried both the Recommended Fixes - the "Download" option and the "Updates" option - NEITHER WORKED !!!

Maybe Google could find a workaround for IE11 so that Compatibility Settings would enable me to revert back to Win XP and Jasc Paintshop !
Then again if someone has an old PC lying around they could donate to Corel Tech Services - then they could try these things out before releasing to the world.

I have just successfully run this re-issued PSP X6 Ultimate SP1 Upgrade, thank you.

Just to clarify, it is only necessary for users of PSP X6 Ultimate who only use the 64-bit version and didn't install the 32-bit version.

(This update to the upgrade installer has nothing to do with the untabbed windows zooming issue.
Luckily I almost always use Tabbed Documents).

Hi, could you please check your version number in advance? If it's 16.1.0.48 and it means you already got the SP1 update. According to the message you provided, it seems like your PSPX6 version is already up-to-date. Please confirm it. Thank you.
