Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1
Hi there,
I too get a message-box that contains no text and has no title, but offers the three buttons: Cancel, Retry and Ignore. After I click "Ignore" the installation takes place without problems.
But I do like to know what I ignore here. Does anybody know?
Best Regards

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1
I've been reading through these messages and for the life of me don't understand the problem of zooming as I don't experience any problem.
I installed the SP1 a couple of weeks ago and everything went well.
I do not have any problem with zooming in or out. It's exactly the same as it was prior to the SP1.
I can use the zoom buttons or my mouse and all work the same.
I have applied the zoom to images in both 32bit and 64bit without any problem.
I have Corel PaintShop Pro 16.1.0.48x64 and the same for 32.
Why is mine okay and others not? That is the question.

Hard to say True.
Remember when we were having the problem with the text tool adding an extra space when you accepted your changes? In spite of the fact that everyone on the beta team confirmed the problem, there were still one or two who said "I don't see that."
But let's double check the zoom problem just in case. Here's a video explaining the zoom issue. - http://youtu.be/xkyi9iQugi0
If you're seeing this same thing, the hotfix is good to have. If not, then no biggie you're good.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1
I am not sure if it is important, but I have installed all PlugIns that are part of the so called Ultimate Edition of PSP X6 too. I forgot to mention it before - sorry!
Would be nice if Corel could state the correct hash-values anywhere, so people can check if their download is correct (I use the programm Hash-Tab under Windows-OS. It is free for personal use and very simple to use as it offers a seperate pane in the context.menue of a file).
So, now I hope to get help in this issue

JCorey wrote:I can not install the SP1 for PSP X6 on my computer for any reason. I tried it with the build-in updater as well as with the update file I downloaded manually from Corel (Both have a MD5 of 93EBDF5AD726AEC82D23417909EBF759).
My System:
OS: Windows 8.1 x64 (6.3 Build 9600, Localized German, latest Patchlevel)
CPU: Intel Q8200
Board: Micro-Star MS-7502
RAM: 8 GB
HDD: 1.5 TB
PSP X6:
16.0.0.113
16.0.0.113 x64
No Firewall on the computer, and user account controll turned off. The problem still occurs with full deactivated antivirus.
I always get a message-box that contains no text and has no title, but offers three buttons:
Cancel, Retry and Ignore
While Cancel will stop the update-operation, the Retry-Option will just result in a loop that will always show the same message-box again.
When I click on Ignore, I get the EULA with the two buttons Cancel and Update and a checker for accepting the long text that nobody have ever read before.
(BTW: The German localized version of the buttons are "Abbrechen" and "Aktualisieren", but there is a typo so the second button is labeled "Aaktualisieren"!)
. OK, I set the checkmark and click on Update and it seems the update will go on for some moments, but with 17% I get a new error-message now:
"Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD_ROM, or a problem with this package."
Then I choose cancel so a rollback occurs.
What's the problem and when will it be fixed?

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1
Well, you seem to have to make a click more:I have installed, used and uninstalled SP1.
They have done something weird to the image zooming (or whatever the official description for that might be).
I don't use Tabbed Documents, never have.
So when I have images open in the workspace there are times I want to make them smaller so I can see a few at the same time.
Doing this before SP1 was not problem, it behaves the same as in X5, scroll the mouse button and the image will get bigger or smaller.
After SP1, I do the same and the border around the image remains the same size, but the photo/graphic becomes smaller, leaving an ever increasing border.
No use to man or beast, so I have rolled back my system and will stick with X6 (32-bit) as it was.
After zooming out (making the image smaller), you'll have to hit the most left of the 3 little icons above right which is called "Fit Window to image". So it is just one click more, for me no use to uninstall and reinstall the whole program.
We know that Corel's programmers are neither the fastest nor the best. They bought a beautiful program from Jasc with PSP 9 and did little to make it better. I would never use the Corel versions if there were not:
a good Smart photo fix
a good one step noise removal
a brilliant Adjust fill light/clarity setting
some good selection settings and
maybe some good effects

Corel's PSP programmers, which seem to constantly change*, are likely very overworked as they don't only seem to look after PSP (might be wrong there, but somehow I don't think so).timmendorf wrote:Well, you seem to have to make a click more:I have installed, used and uninstalled SP1.

As we have all found out; fixing one thing - breaks another.
If there were enough coders and enough time, I am sure the outcome could be different.
I posted the above comment on the 2nd of November. Since then a Hotfix has been produced to fix the issue.
I haven't installed or even downloaded it, and will stick with X6 without it's Service Pack. It works fine.
PSP has some excellent tools, but most of the good work was, as you mentioned, done by Jasc. Corel just hoped they could milk the good reputation of the Jasc product for many versions without adding anything substantial. (I don't call the uploading to Farcebook, some scripts disguised as special Effects, etc. 'substantial')
Now, at last, the new Selection Tools are a breath of fresh air, but they need Tolerance settings, can't see those appearing any time soon.
After years and years of hoping that something really worth having would appear, I am now disillusioned and feel that years of beta testing has been a waste of time, there is a certain amount of deafness at the other end

I think you're right about Corel "milking" PSP after purchasing it, and they're also doing that with WinZip after purchasing that.Joelle wrote:PSP has some excellent tools, but most of the good work was, as you mentioned, done by Jasc. If I had to bet, I'd say the evolution of PSP went something like this:
Jasc started PSP back in the days of Windows 3.x. The Jasc programmers were very clever and used some very "creative" programming to overcome the limitations of Win3.x. As time went by, the basic code base stayed the same and additional features were layered onto it, so the total code grew very large, but everything still worked because Windows was still based on its 3.x incarnation. Then, as more time went by, Windows evolved and underwent a massive change to the Windows NT code base -- beginning with Win2K and really changing with Vista/Win7. That meant that the "creative" coding used in the PSP base was not only unnecessary but also became deprecated and not good coding practices any more. So Corel inherited a huge amount of code that more or less worked, but had significant problems in doing so under modern operating systems. (For example, look at how long it took Corel to fix the bug with text having an invisible extra space at the end of a line.)
What to do? The only real solution is to re-write the entire code base, starting almost from scratch, using modern coding practices. That requires a huge investment in time, money and programmers. As an example, Adobe used the occasion of producing 64-bit versions of Photoshop to revisit all the code and that took them (with all the resources that they have) a couple of years to do.
That's one of the reasons why I've switched to another program as my primary image editing tool -- I don't see that kind of intensive investment happening to PSP, ever.

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done...

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1
Jasc re-wrote the code for PSP8, from scratch.
I have no intention of moving away from PSP.
Adobe doesn't get me excited in the slightest.
I do a large amount of editing and use PSP every day, it does what I want it to do, but that's because I know my way around it.
Every time Corel get their hands on it, they change things that work perfectly well before and 'simplify' them, then it becomes annoying (I am remaining polite).
Some things no longer work as they used to, more clicking is involved to achieve the same result.
Corel haven't got their head around that.
They prefer to aim for new customers and not so much the existing ones as those aren't always going to upgrade (quite right too if a new version isn't offering real new things).
One of the posters here mentioned that she has stayed with PSPX (which is the last version Jasc programmers still had some input in). After that.. well we know what happened after that.
Don't get me wrong, X6 works fine (without the service pack in my case), but it could be so much better if some tools hadn't been dumbed down over the last few versions.
A great shame.

As i type this PSP trying to copy a lage picture, it takes forever.
This program is broken for a long time now and will never be fixed. The best version was in the time of Micrografx Picture Publisher.
Time to move away of this trainwreck.
It fanally finished after 6 minutes.

I am sure this slowness has nothing to do with PSP.
It also is definitely NOT a trainwreck. It's a good program that could and should be better
How large is the lage picture you are working on?

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1
A question for everyone posting here. Corel maybe interested in your answers!!!!
PSPx6 is a bargain when compared to Adobe products. (Yeah there are products other than Adobe. But Adobe is held up as the benchmark).
Some posters are saying Corel doesn't have enough programers working on issues. So my question is, "how much are you willing to pay for PSPx7 if Corel employ more coders?" Because it's simple maths to add coders you will add costs. Extra costs must be passed on.
So do you want a bargain product with some issues. (Adobe charges more for their issues). Or do you want to pay more for a product that will have LESS issues. I use the LESS because no product will ever be 100% bug free.
No I'm not taking up the fight for Corel. I'm just being realistic.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1
I would be prepared to pay extra for a fully functioning Edit module, forget about the Manage and Adjust modules. As others have mentioned there are small bugs that have not been addressed and fixed for 3-4 versions. Instead they seem to be adding extras that create more problems that take up their time in correcting. I purchased my first PSP 8 for $150 back in 2003 at that stage Photoshop was at least $600 and was still as clunky as it is today. That version was in effect just an Edit module.
I amost get annoyed about all these asking for all the extras that Photoshop has , but still expecting the same low price. If you don't like it go back to Photoshop and stop trying to change PSP into a clone of Photoshop.

I get a little tired of hearing so many complaints. PSP is not perfect but I have yet to find a product that is. I am currently using the 32 bit version of X6 with few problems. I also now have Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 which I got while they had the $9.99 special. Those programs have some nice features but also do some weird things now and then. I also use Aftershot Pro which is also not perfect but I can't find much that Lightroom can do that ASP and it's plugins can't.

yeah same problem here. without "SP1" it does work, after SP1 installed
the window will not fit when zooming into a pic
I loved PSP from JASC... but since it was bought from Corel each version get more worst...
