Hi Josephlin,

I've tried to download the updated SP1. All I get is a message saying I don't need an update!!
I'm going around in circles here. Do I uninstall x6 beforehand?

FWIW, I just had an automatic update downloaded and installed when I exited PSP yesterday. The current version reported now is 16.1.0.48 x64. Since that update, the display function, set in preferences: "Fit Window to Image", no longer works. That is, windows don't resize when you adjust the image zoom. That's a big pain for me. I don't know what this update was supposed to fix, but now I wonder what else it may have broken. So if you are missing the latest update, you could be better off.

Bruce, what PSP Version number are you on? If it is 16.1.0.48 you are already on the latest version, which includes SP1.
(That ".1" after the 16 tells us so). If you are still on 16.0.0.113 you can still upgrade to SP1.

However, reading your previous post and Joseph's response, your issues are not fixed by SP1, indeed they well be caused by it, although I haven't hit them. The other major bug in SP1 is the "zooming" issue as described by bowserb.

When Joseph said:
We are really apologise with the error we made for SP1 update...
he was referring to the inability to apply SP1 for PSP X6 Ultimate users who only use 64-bit.

My version # is 16.1.0.48 x64.

I'm wasting too much time on this. As I'm on the road working with a laptop I'm inclined to uninstall x6 completely from the computer. Then start with a new download/install. Will this work? Again time I should be using for work.

My main gripe is the side by side viewing of photos. I use one photo as the 'norm/benchmark', the other I make changes to. I like to compare the results of my changes. Zooming in and out often to compare the two. At the moment Corel has made my work flow a joke.

If there is a NEW SP1 shouldn't it be SP2 so that my computer/version doesn't think its already installed? Or am I thinking too logically?

I appreciate the Corel, or any company, can get it wrong from time to time. That's OK. But it's how they handle that 'wrong' that is wrong.

No, there is no new SP1.

Again, the problem josephlin was referring to was a problem with installing SP1 on systems where only PSPX6 64bit was installed. They fixed this problem, so there is no new version of SP1. It's just a small change to the installer not to the service pack itself.

Since your version is 6.1.0.48 you are all up to date. You do not need to install SP1. You're good. You have the latest everything already.

The zoom problem will be fixed with a hotfix, but that has not been released. Last we heard they are working on correcting it. The hotfix will appear as a message inside PSP, not as a service pack. But, again, they don't currently have that out.

Your choice is to install from your original X6 installation and forget about SP1. Or just leave everything alone. You're good right now. You don't have to do anything right now. If you cannot live with the zoom bug then you need an older installation of PSPX6 as any new install will have SP1 included.

Thanks LeviFiction. Me, like others, are getting mixed messages. Fix! No fix! Update or no update!

As long as Corel makes an announcement here on this forum when the 'fix' to the zoom issue is available all should be ok.

For now I'll put up with the zoom issue.
And.
And the issue with some tool actions not being seen until a zoom is performed. So my guess is the zoom issues are all related.

I have EXACTLY the same problem and error message as JohnB posted on page 6. I note that he is running Windows XP Home - 32 Bit. Exactly the same as myself. I noted that during the failed Service Pack 1 install I saw one of the blurbs talking about 64bit. That makes me wonder .. is this failing on our 32 Bit XP Home computers because they are 32 Bit?

I also cleared the cache of PaintShop Pro x 6 and downloaded the "new" SP1, only to find that it too would not install.

I encountered exactly the same problem as before, an error message saying
CRC error: The file C:\Users\Ray\AppData\Local\Temp\Corel PaintShop
Pro X6\16.1\Setup\PSPPro64.msi doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab
file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted;
contact your software vendor.

When I ignore this message and try to install anyway, the installation continues, then stops after a weird popup message appears for an instant saying:
Your installed versions does not need updating.

But my installed version is Corel PaintShop Pro 16.0.0.113x64
I indeed does need the update.

How do I fix this mess? Any suggestions?

Finally! Resolution!
I was able to solve the problem today by un-installing my version of PaintShop Pro x6, and installing a fresh trial version that I downloaded from the Corel website.

Only 2 strange things happened:
1. When I was installing the trial version, my anti-virus software Webroot SecureAnywhere reported 2 malware in the installation package that it removed. Maybe this is a false-positive, or maybe Corel accidentally included some unwelcome guest

2. After the trial version installed, I could not find any place to enter my registration key. Only after going online and searching did I learn that you have to try to shut down Paintshop Pro x6 *first* before the "nag screen" appears reminding the user that the installation is trialware and offering a way to enter registration serial numbers. This is somewhat un-unintuitive, perhaps even dumb. Nearly every other software application that I have EVER used has a special sub-menu in HELP that allows the user to register serial numbers. Corel, please consider changing this current method. It is un-intuitive and non-standard.

Hi all,
I have also had problems. I removed paintshop Pro X1 and X6 incase this was the problem and re-installed X6 but still got the same message "CRC error: The file|DOCUME~1\ADMIN~1|LOACALS\Temp|Corel PaintShop Pro X6\16.1\Set up|PSP Pro.msi doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file" etc.
Lets hope this problem is soon sorted as every time I uuise the program I get a request to download the service pack :(

I have both 32 bit & 64 bit versions install (16.0.0.113) and get the same messages for either.

Used program 'Check for Updates'

I have re-downloaded program in case original installation was corrupted (although it seemed to work OK) but do not want to do anything until I know what is happening, or what I should do.
I also get this error saying the sp1 installation file is corrupt, have installed both 64 & 32 bit versions & tried IE 11 & FF.

Edit: Skip that, although I do still get the error if I try to install sp1 it seems the version I bought & downloaded today is the most upto date version (16.1) so already has the sp included.

Exactly the point coolrat, yet with each new version and SP recently they just break more and more of what used to work fine for no apparent reason?
This image zoom being classic example. I'm with your friend as I won't be spending any more money on PSP as it's jutting worse and making my work harder and time consuming for no gain in functionality at all.

And with this don't care attitude from Corel making people pay to inquire about things they (corel) have broken is just not right and shows they don't care and don't deserve my money
Thereby lies a huge problem.
Corel need the money to pay the development team.
Less money means less staff to do a good job. But the pressure to deliver remains the same, so the program isn't what it should be.
So we go around and around in circles.
It all started when Corel 'bought' Jasc (little cash and a lot of shares changed hands) and cash in on the good name of Jasc. Fired the development team (just before Christmas) and closed the offices.
Then sat back and hardly touched PSP for years. This is the result.
X6 has some good things, but so much has been broken/changed in the process that it will take a lot of work to get it right, I can't see that happening any time soon, if ever :-(

I went back to using X6 without the SP1, it works better that way :-)

Having said all this, I blame Microsoft for constantly changing their OS, XP was excellent, W7 works well, but then.. it doesn't make program makers' jobs any easier.

Joëlle
Aye. Hardly any real word difference since PSP9 - lots of bugs added though and old stuff that worked properly is now broken (jpg chroma subsampling setting for example). Majority of tools are the same as in PSP7(!).

Hi Bruce:

I would like to inform you to download our hot fix which can resolve your current problem as my understanding. Please visit here http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=52219 and get everything done then you can continue to enjoy our PSPX6 version. Again, sorry for making this side-effect in SP1 and hopefully it doesn't affect your work too much. Sorry for inconvenience.

It took me about 2 hours of searching to find this fix, but thank you for finally publishing it! That zoom problem was REALLY annoying.

The lack of accurate zoom panning is still a HUGE annoyance though. In PSP7, scrolling the mouse wheel would intuitively pan the image toward the mouse cursor. For example, you could easily zoom completely into a corner - which I often need to do for my particular graphic work.

For the life of me, I can't figure out what algorithm X6 is using for zoom panning. It seems to kind of work if you zoom into the upper left corner, but if you zoom toward the other corners the panning seems to hit a "wall" at some point and you're forced to use the scroll bars to pan any farther out. Scroll bars are incredibly inconvenient compared to the zoom-and-pan scroll wheel method, so it would be REALLY nice to have that again.

But at least the windows resize correctly with this fix!

I can not install the SP1 for PSP X6 on my computer for any reason. I tried it with the build-in updater as well as with the update file I downloaded manually from Corel (Both have a MD5 of 93EBDF5AD726AEC82D23417909EBF759).

My System:
OS: Windows 8.1 x64 (6.3 Build 9600, Localized German, latest Patchlevel)
CPU: Intel Q8200
Board: Micro-Star MS-7502
RAM: 8 GB
HDD: 1.5 TB

PSP X6:
16.0.0.113
16.0.0.113 x64

No Firewall on the computer, and user account controll turned off. The problem still occurs with full deactivated antivirus.

I always get a message-box that contains no text and has no title, but offers three buttons:
Cancel, Retry and Ignore

While Cancel will stop the update-operation, the Retry-Option will just result in a loop that will always show the same message-box again.
Image

When I click on Ignore, I get the EULA with the two buttons Cancel and Update and a checker for accepting the long text that nobody have ever read before.
(BTW: The German localized version of the buttons are "Abbrechen" and "Aktualisieren", but there is a typo so the second button is labeled "Aaktualisieren"!)
. OK, I set the checkmark and click on Update and it seems the update will go on for some moments, but with 17% I get a new error-message now:
"Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD_ROM, or a problem with this package."
Image

Then I choose cancel so a rollback occurs.

What's the problem and when will it be fixed?
