Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1

Post by Tadjio »

Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Service Pack 1 is now available for download. You can find it under 'Patches and Updates' in the heading / title bar above although the automatic check for updates finds it too.
I am just downloading and installing it BUT :::
It appears that the SP1 Upgrade does not work on a 64-bit-ONLY Version of PSP X6  .

It seems their installer users the built in web browser control (IE) to display content while it installs. That was so fascinating. I had to allow the unsecured content before I could see the continue button.

Moving to manage mode really quick to check if the image now filled the preview canvas, moving back my UI reset. But only the one time. Tried re-loading my workspace but buttons are off now. So I'm guessing their UI updates have killed our workspace files again? Or it might have just been a fluke on my computer? Anyone else seeing something similar?

You know, if workspace files were more of a script than obscure registry entry values, they could potentially map between versions of PSP more effectively. Since they'd have commands like "MateralsPalette_Dock()" and give a location or width and height. Let PSP's internals figure out how to reflect that in the registry.

I am having trouble installing X6 SP1.
I get an error message:
"1.psppro.msi: This installation cannot be run by directly launching the MSI package. You must run setup.exe".

Do we have to uninstall X6 beforehand?
I should add that I only have X6 64-bit (and have not installed X6 32-bit)
Any body else get this error?

No, I didn't get the error you mentioned and you do not have to uninstall X6 to add the service pack. I have both 32 and 64 bit installed.

Just downloaded. Installed and ran the update. No issues what so ever. Workspace is just as I had it set up. Starts up marginally faster.

For the record, the version number for both 32 and 64 bit programs is 16.1.0.48.

'fit windows to image when zooming in' seems to be broken.

Do any of the programmers actually ever use the program?

Is that the version number post update? I just want to verify I have the latest version installed. I just installed my new purchased X6 copy yesterday evening, then I saw the SP1 release dialog, but it says my software is up to date. Thank you.

16.1.0.48 is post update and reflects the update to SP1. (The 1 following 16 in the version number indicates SP1.)

For whatever unknown reason the SP1 update was not invoked when checking for updates within the program and you had to download it manually from Corel's site. At least that was my experience.

Likely not, maybe they use the Mudhut product.

I have installed, used and uninstalled SP1.
They have done something weird to the image zooming (or whatever the official description for that might be).
I don't use Tabbed Documents, never have.
So when I have images open in the workspace there are times I want to make them smaller so I can see a few at the same time.
Doing this before SP1 was not problem, it behaves the same as in X5, scroll the mouse button and the image will get bigger or smaller.
After SP1, I do the same and the border around the image remains the same size, but the photo/graphic becomes smaller, leaving an ever increasing border.
No use to man or beast, so I have rolled back my system and will stick with X6 (32-bit) as it was.
I can live with a nano second slower launching :-)

I was able to install SP1 from the X6 Check for Updates function with no problem.

It seems whenever there is a positive change something else gets broken. When I first reported that the image size in Manage mode and the Histogram adjust layer were not right Ruby responded that Corel did not support the increased text size in Windows. I'm pleased that the problem has now been fixed. Now all the icons for Layers are incorrect - this has happened many times for me with other icons and eventually they correct themselves or Corel does. I had other problems that corrected by rebooting. But as pinobot and Joelle point out, the resize window when zooming is now broken. We'll probably find other problems as well.

I tried to download SP1 several times and I allways get an error message which says that the file is corrupted. Any ideas why?

Hans

I just found the solution: I used IE9 64bit. Ichanged to Chrome browser and the download worked perfectly.
