scanned images from a mag have yellow streaks on them

Post by david reece »

I have scanned some images from a magazine.

Each one has yellow streaks across them.

Is this a copyright protection feature?

I have tried the reduce moire and noise in P10 but this makes the problem worse.

Cheers

You might be getting bleed through from the back side of the page to front. You might also try to add a couple of very white sheets of paper behind the mag article to create a whiter density when scanning.

Sometimes if the Scanning Door is not closed and completely flat against the image excess light is let in and interferes with the scanner. Try cutting the article out, if you don’t mind ruining the mag, and then scanning with the Lid closed. If you don't want to cut the article out then get a large piece of very dense black cloth and lay over the magazine and hold the lid down while scanning.

The moiré pattern is common due to the way commercial images are printed. Some mag’s will also add a specific screen type to foil copying to some degree. I have never heard of inserting yellow streaks. You might turn the article around in 45 degree increments and then scan to diminish the moiré.

I would also try to scan at a higher/lower resolution. Also, the settings for the source are important, don't scan a magazine print with photo settings which can happen if you don't watch it.

Definitely not a copywrite protection. Check the USB connection of your scanner. If you connected it through an extension cord usually used for USB flash drives, then the scanned pictures would usually come out with some discolloration.

Read the manual of your scanner. It usually has instructions on how to toggle the TWAIN Aquire color settings (Brightness & Contrast, Color Balance, etc.).
Download and install the latest scanner drivers as well.
