Saving custom project settings

Post by sjj1805 »

Is there a way to save custom project settings for future use.

Some of my video is brought in via a TV card and I have to remember to set the project to upper field first. Likewise photo slideshows generated with Pro Show Gold.

Some of my video is from my Camcorder via a firewire and I have to set it to lower field first.

In the project properties I would like entries which read :-
PAL MPEG - Camcorder
and
PAL MPEG - TV Card

Each of which would be set to the appropriate field order.
This would save me having to keep looking for a text file I have saved to remind me which field to use for which device.

Hi sjj,

in UVS9, select Tools/Movie Maker Manager. This Produces the Templates dialog.. You can either edit the Normal template to your own required custom defaults (recommended), or create a new template with your custom defaults, name and save it... You will have to remember to activate the new template, as the normal one will always be the default loaded at startup.. That's why it is recommended that you edit the default normal template... That way, you can get straight into capturing..

Hi again,

I see you are regularly capturing from two different sources, but as both are PAL sources and both capturing to mpeg*... they would both use the same template...?

Thanks George.
At least I can now keep the settings somewhere within VS9.
The area I was looking at was
File
Project Properties
Project Template Properties.

Here you can either choose MPEG or AVI and it appears to retain the latest setting.

Video captured by way of the TV card or generated from software like Pro Show Gold produces MPG files.

Input via the firewire from my camcorder comes in as AVI/DV.
If for some reason I wish to convert the AVI to MPG I have to keep the MPG at the same field setting as the original AVI.

One reason I recently did this was to make a back up of the raw footage before I made any edits. I was then able to save the unedited MPG files onto DVD disks. keeping them as AVI's are too big. The fact that all sources are in PAL is irelevant, Field order is determined (mostly) by the hardware source and not the TV standard.

Anyway, your suggestion, although not quite what I was looking for is adequate for my needs. Thank you.

Hi sjj,

Yes, I have used that myself. I think this may be there for you to make quick minor adjustments to the loaded template, rather tthan select another template... Also.. you can make changes/adjustments in the Capture Module Options.. These features can be useful when you are making multi-captures to a project, when for example the settings may need changing from clip to clip, but I can't help feeling that the potential this gives for conflicts may result in a few postings on this web board..

DV is captured as DV surely... LFF seems to be the standard for that.. and you could capture directly to mpeg if you wanted to.. Afaik the FO would be the same, as the video source determines this. A bit of a minefield though, and puts a major strain on the PC system resources... and not for the faint-hearted. Most of my coasters started out like that. If you are eventually factoring to VCD or DVD, the conversion to mpeg is efficiently done in the Share/Burning module, where you can also render your video to a file if you want to keep it in mpeg.. Soon fill up your hard drive though.

Best wishes
