automatically Populating dvd menu with chapter names

Post by Milloni99 »

Hi - Am on x5 and Windows 7

Am creating chapters in edit mode and adding chapter names. When I go to create mode I can find no-way to automatically populate the DVD menu with the pre-inputted names i created in edit mode. Assume this must be possible.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm afraid it's not. Any chapter names you enter in Edit mode -- and sometimes the chapter points themselves -- are lost when you go into the Burning module. You then have to rename the points there (if they show!) Many of us therefore prefer to leave entering chapters and their names until we reach the burning module.

Incidentally, you posted your question three times. As part of the registration process, you should have been informed that as a newly registered user, your first two posts would require approval by a Moderator before you or anyone else could see them. I have thus deleted the other two posts (as I had already answered this one before I saw them! ) Your next post will similarly require approval, so don't double or triple post it. After that, though, you will be able to post freely.

Ken - many thanks. Yes I realised my error on Re-posting after the damage was done so thanks for typing that up for me.

Seems kind of crazy it doesn't carry the chapter names through but now I know that I'll be sure to write the names down and then input them in create mode.

Thanks,
Simon

Hi Simon

When you close the burner module you are taken back to the timelines.

Now save your project, File – Save or Save As, this will save the menu structure and hopefully the chapter names.

Thanks Iata. Unfortunately it is the other way round I am after I.e carrying through chapter names to burner mode rather than creating them in burner mode an carrying them back.

I think the point lata was making was in relation to another bug with chapter names. Unless you do what he outlined *after* you have entered chapter names in the burning module, there is a good chance you will lose those names if you exit the burning module and do not manually save the project again before closing VS. When you close the burning module, you get a box saying it is saving, and everyone assumes it is saving the project file. But in fact none of us knows what exactly it is saving, nor where it is saving to, but it is certainly not saving the project file. So as lata suggests, once you have inserted the chapter names in the burning module, the best way to save them, if you don't intend to burn the project immediately, or if later you want to come back and burn some more discs, you need to *manually* save the project once you have exited the burning module. That will ensure the chapter names remain as you entered them. Otherwise they revert to 'Chapter01, Chapter02 etc'.

I can't seem to change/edit the chapter names while in burning mode. All I ever get is Chapter01, Chapter02 etc...

Exactly how do you edit/change the chapter name in burning mode? Thank you.

to get to the chapter menu in the burn module look immediately under the preview window to see - 'currently displayed menu - main menu' change the drop down saying main menu to the name of your video' - you should then see the chapter menu

RIGHT click on the chapter name (Chapter01 etc.) in the burn module preview window - from the pop out choose 'Edit' - type a new name for the chapter - click any where on a blank area of the menu to set the title.
