I do a lot of screen captures mostly using Vdub to move frame by frame when I want a screencap. I don't get any problem with vdub but when I use other programs like MPC HC or sometimes even in WMP, the size dimensions sometimes gets captured with the image like this:
It gets quite annoying because I have to recapture the frame again and try different techniques to get it without the box or size dimensions showing up in the capture.
I'm using Corel PSP x4 to do my screen captures. Any ideas how to capture clearly without those box dimensions getting in the way?
Use the Windows Print Screen instead, that's what I do.
Either just hit the Print Scrn key, or hold the Alt key + PrintScrn if you only want the active image.
I don't use external programs or PSP for capturing screens and have never had a problem.
after using 'prt scn' or 'alt+prt scn' do you then do a "Paste" in a graphics programme - if it doesn't work in PSP then try Windows 'Paint' - always works for me there - but you must Paste after using the windows options.
Or alternatively - since you have Windows 7 use the free and included Windows Snipping Tool which captures any part of the screen you specify in a number of formats - - "Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Snipping tool"
I wil presume that you also want to capture a number of images from a video.
When I set up screen capture I use Full Screen, Hot Key (F10) and Multiple captures. Then I use PSP crop tool to crop exactly what I want , and if it is the full active screen component without any window areas, I have better control using the crop tool rather than draging out each image to select the area to be captured.
You do not gain any increase in size / resolution of image by selecting a part of the screen over the whole screen.
That way you never have any of those numbers messing up your image. If you place your video player in the right position on the screen (bit of trial and error) then the crop area will appear in the right position for each image captured without having to drag the crop area anywhere at all.

Ah, thanks for those ideas to the above posters. I tried them and they both work. The only question i still have though is, is there no way to screen capture the way I am already doing it except without capturing those frame borders and dimension size in the middle?
The reason is, in terms of time saving, I believe it would still be faster to do it the way I've always done it. Yes, I need to capture multiple screencaps, often frame by frame (step motion) which windows media player doesn't have (you'd have to click pause and play as fast as you can but even still it'll move 4 or 5 frames ahead).
When I do my multiple screencaps, I need the freedom to be able to drag and resize the frame to any size and any location of the image. If I do the F10 method at full screen, i'll easily capture say 200 screen caps by just hitting f10 for every frame, but then when i go into edit them, I'd have to crop and resize all 200 frames individually. Normally, what I do is once 200 screencaps have been captured all uniquely and individually to my liking, then when i go back to psp, I just close the program and click "Save all" and I can hold the enter key down and it'll save all 200 screencaps in a minute or so and I'm done.
Did I get this right? Or am I still missing something here? I definitely appreciate those ideas and they do work (no issues with frame borders or size dimensions showing up), but the new issue now is I'd have to essentially do double the work (go over all screencaps and personalize them using cropping tool).
I can make another video later to show what I mean in case i'm not making any sense.
If I was doing 200 screen caps at 2 or 3 frames separation I would be using a dedicated video editing programwhere you can advance the frames one by one and capture what you want there. (it still captures the whole of the scene though whereas I am reading that you sometimes want to capture 1/4 of the screen and sometimes smaller and different sizes).
By the way did a search on your problem and the same issue came up on another forum:
http://www.michelespaintshop.com/forum/ ... 3&start=15
and the poster there had some communications with Corel (who could not reproduce the result) but eventually a solution was mentioned on Page 2 which involved creating a new Administrative account on Win 7
Hope that helps.
PS and then on page 3 it suggests that there may be an incompatibility with some windows themes. I have not experienced this problem but then I have the plain boring default themes that came with Windows 7.

Yes, actually I read that thread also and have posted my question up there a couple days ago (even though the last post on that thread was over a year ago).
I tried the new admin account and I also tried the display themes suggestion. Neither helped. But I think my issue is slightly different because it's not that I'm unable to do screencaps. I'm able to capture screencaps with x4 as I showed in my video if I'm using windows media player or other programs like virtualdub. The problem is that when I use certain other programs, i'll get this strange lag when I drag the capture box where the outline is lagging and constantly visible when i click on the hotkey for screencap (as well as the size dimension shows up in the center upon pressing the hotkey).
It's really weird but I've dealt with this issue for probably 5-7 years. It wasn't so serious that I'd commit to spending hours posting questions joining forums etc to find out why. I had already tried and asked many times over the years but nobody could ever figure it out, so i just left it.
I don't really think it's an issue with x4 as i've been using paint shop pro since Paint Shop Pro 5 and 7 back then and same thing would happen only in certain programs or when I had more than one video opened and were layered on top of each other.
For example: if you open 1 video with WMP, then open a 2nd video with Quicktime, then if you tried to do a screen capture and custom drag the box to any size you wanted, you get that lag and the appearance of box outline and size dimensions show up in the middle. All I had to do back then was to make sure I closed other video apps and only had 1 video open when doing screen caps. Even if i had a streaming video in on a web browser in the background (say I wanted to watch a movie while i was working on capturing 200 screen caps...) I would have to make sure the screencap video was not overlaying on top of the streaming online video otherwise i'd get that lag and the boxes would appear and be captured in the screencap. I would have to move them apart and separate them on the desktop.
I think at one point someone told me something about a hardware acceleration enable/disable option and it worked, but only for that time. I think the issue is there are certain programs that seem to lag the screen capture.
If anyone wants to give it a try, download MPC HC (media player classic home cinema...it's free), and load any video file from that software. Then open your corel psp and start a screen capture mode. Drag and resize the capture box around the video and see if you also get that lag and size dimensions show up in your screen cap.
It would just be nice if there was an option to be able to custom drag a box without having the size dimensions show up. It's annoying having size dimension appear. I know it's meant for ppl who want to measure the size of the frame so that they can try and capture the exact same dimensions, but it's a freehand custom drag any size option, i think it's useless to have those numbers constantly appearing in the middle of the screen whenever you enlarge or shrink the box. I don't need to know that the box is now 563x350 pixels when i drag my mouse a little left, or that the box is now 693x903 pixels when i drag the box vertically, or that the box is now 3x5 when i shrink it lol. I never screen cap by actual numbers, only screen cap by visual eye (whatever size/proportion I like to take out from the image).
Anyways, i appreciate your ideas. I don't expect this to ever be resolved as i've already gotten used to no solutions for almost a decade now. I've never used another photo editor so I wonder if the same problem exists if i use photoshop screen capture.
Well I did a little searching around for a dedicated screen capture program that meets my needs and one that works really well is called SnapShot. It's free and so far as I've tested it out, it's really good.
Basically all i have to do is press the hotkey "R" and i can begin to drag mouse click to any size box i want to capture. Once I let go of the mouse click, it automatically saves the captured image into a file (you choose where the saved files should go), and that's it. There's no outline box or size dimensions that get captured. It also allows me to keep the program minimized after a screen capture so that I can take multiple/consecutive screencaps. It plays a simple "camera click" sound effect to indicate you took a snap. You can actually choose your own wav file and swap it to have a custom sound effect each time u take a screen cap.
The only downside is while doing multiple captures, i still have to press hotkey "R" each time before taking the snap. PSP just lets you keep on taking captures over and over without any hotkeys. But what I like about it is that it auto saves the file immediately so it saves me from having to save all 200 screencaps at the end.
But most of all, there's no issue with laggy frame borders or size dimensions in the middle (I used MPC HC and worked fine there).
I guess this will be my workaround to resolve the screen cap issue with Corel PSP. Of course, I'll still use PSP to do any post editing of the saved screen caps i took from SnapShot.
Hope this helps anyone who has gone through the same "outline/frame box and size dimensions showing up in screen caps" issue.
