Looping a video on a thumb drive?

Post by painterskip »

Hello

I'm in the middle of preparing a couple videos for an event in less than 2 weeks. One will be played on a larger LCD or plasma TV. The person in charge of that stuff at the hotel suggested I put that video on a thumb drive and that it could be looped. But now I find out that I have to set that parameter myself. So far, I can only see that it can be done when you burn the DVD. I just tried it and it works fine.

So, my question is, how can I burn the same video, to a thumb drive to accomplish the same end? Is that possible?

BTW, I'm using VP Pro X5 Ultimate on a PC.

Thanks in advance.

Is the thumb drive going to be played from a PC or a set-top box? In any case, one should be able to set the media player's setting to loop. Example: Windows Media Player = Repeat/Ctrl T

The thumb drive will be plugged into the TV. After scouring online, it seems that some TVs will loop videos. I tried it on my TV and even when I copied all the DVD files to the thumb drive, it would play one time and then return to the file list. What I wanted is for it to loop.
There doesn't seem to be anything I can change on my TVs media player prefereces to force a loop.

That's why I figured that if I copied the DVD files to the thumb drive, that loop info should be in there. I tested the DVD on another TV and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, for this event, I must use a thumb drive.

So again...not played from a PC. Thumb drive plugged directly into the TV.

They currently use that TV to loop photos about the hotel. The lady that handles it seems to think it'll work OK. I just want to be prepared.

Since you are just copying the video files to a USB stick as data, the loop function is controlled by the TV.

What make/model of TV do you have and will you be using for the presentation. Almost every new TV that can play from USB sticks should have the loop or repeat option .

You say you copied the DVD files from the DVD to the USB stick. What extensions do those copied files have? If they are files from a standard video DVD (with extensions ifo, bup and vob) then that may not work since the TV may not recognize those files.

There is no loop setting that can be applied to the video file like one can when authoring a DVD-Video Disc. The TV will recognize the USB drive and use its own proprietary player to play the media. Newer TVs have a loop feature and in this case they may have one that does. Unfortunately, yours does not.

The TV I'm testing on at home is a Samsung Plasma Series 4 (either a 400 or 450). I've been looking at the user manual and it claims that under the tools settings I can set it to loop. I'll try again but so far, there really haven't been any 'settings' to speak of on our TV with regards playing videos from the thumb drive.

I'm not sure what make and model of TV the hotel is using. I'm guessing that if they are already lopping video, mine will work as well. I was just wanting to make sure that there wasn't something I had to do on my end to make this happen. I'll be visiting the hotel on Monday to test.

Thanks for all the help so far!

SOLVED!

Sometimes you just have to ask a question even if your not sure it the right question to ask. So in my case, I wasn't sure which end controls the loop function with the thumb drive/TV combination. At first, when looking at the 'tools' function on our TV, it basically showed nothing but info about the drive.

However, if I pressed the 'tools' button on the remote, AFTER I started the video, viola! It's all there. Now I can set the repeat mode. Woot - woot!

So thanks to all that replied. It set me in the right direction.

Glad you found the Tools option and how to set the looping feature. I have found that most Samsungs have the same/similar operating system and was going to suggest to check the Tools menu for the looping option if you had a Samsung.
I would think the Hotel TV will have a similar method even if it is not a Samsung.
