Hi
I've had an e-mail from a PSPX6 user friend who has asked me a question I'm unable to answer - so I'm hoping for some help to put him back on the right track.
He says he's been trying to build an image in layers but has discovered that they are out of alignment.
Any ideas for investigating and solving the problem?
Terry

Re: layers out of alignment
In what way are they out of alignment? What is this friend trying to align them to? Did they open an image and the layers got out of alignment that way? Or was it just as they were making the image?
Details.

I quote
I wanted to make a hair brush and selected a part of the hair.
Next step was Paste as new Layer and this is what happened. The same thing happens when the selection is made, copied, new raster layer created and then paste.
It should just paste in place in both instances.

Re: layers out of alignment
It sounds to me like you need either Selections/Promote selection to layer, or Create new layer, activate it, and Edit/Paste into selection.

Re: layers out of alignment
I'm sorry but it doesn't "just paste in place in both instances". When you simply paste into a layer or as a new layer, the program pastes your selection into the center of the canvas. That's the way it has always been.
If you want the selection to be exactly where it originated, then you should Selection/promote selection to new layer and it will be exactly in the same place but on it's own layer.

Does your friend mean the subject didn't paste where he wanted it?el48tel wrote:I quote

Something will paste in the centre of the image (layer) by default. So not 'out of alignment'. That's how the program works.

Re: layers out of alignment
If you want something to be pasted in position on another layer eg small object on transparent background .
The object is someway off centre. Just pasting it will place it in the centre.
What you can do is use a paint brush with say a strong color (red?) and paint a section in diagonally opposite corners making sure that the very corner is filled.
Then copy and paste that. The corners will allign along with anything else on that layer . Then use the eraser tool to erase the red paint marks.

Re: layers out of alignment
As has been mentioned. When working with a selection using "Promote Selection to Layer" will copy the selected pixels onto its own layer in the exact same position as the original pixels. This is because it's just a direct copy.
If you're trying to do the same between images or if you're hoping to use Copy and Paste then doing what hartpaul suggested is one way to go. This, however, only works on layers with transparency. And if you're copying the whole layer. So make sure to use the method that best fits your situation.
