PSP X2 + Win 8.1 Install issue (FIXED)

Post by JohnFredC »

Hello!

I am moving from my trusty old XP machine (with PSPXII installed and running perfectly) to a new Win 8 (now 8.1 Pro) computer and want to run PSPXII on the new machine, abandoning my previous installation.

Unfortunately, a new XII installation offers no method for me to enter my paid-for serial number/activation code. Instead, starting XII fails with this message popup:
  • No asset found for trial download (license ID: 540228037) with 173 day(s) left, source type 10, lang en and source ID 210001.
Background:
  • · My initial install of XII on the Win 8/X64 Home machine worked fine.
    · Then, I installed a trial of X5, used it for a little while, and uninstalled it.
    · After uninstalling X5, XII quit working, with the above message.
    · Subsequently I upgraded to Win 8/X64 Pro, then to Win 8.1/X64
    · When I had time, I installed the trial of X6, just in case I liked it enough to switch from XII. Sorry, but no, so I then uninstalled X6.
    · I have attempted installing XII several times since with no luck. Even cleaned by hand the registry of all references to it I could find. No luck.
    · The original executable I used to install XII now says "Thank you for selecting the trial" or something like that.
Questions:
  • 1) What is the name of the correct install executable for XII? I am using: PSPP12_Corel_TBYB_EN_IE_FR_DE_ES_IT_NL_ESD.exe. Do I have the wrong one?

    2) How can I enter my paid serial number/ activation code for PSPXII in my new Win 8.1 environment?
I am reluctant to uninstall the old version on the XP machine prior to getting the new computer running, considering these difficulties.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

John

Ok. The problem is NOT with the Protexis Licensing service, which IS hanging in the "Starting" mode and won't allow an administrator initiated installation to proceed.

Instead, when searching on the FULL text of the error message (see above) Google led me to...the Corel Discovery Center and to this page.

The simple solution was to disconnect from the internet before attempting to run X2, then reconnecting prior to entering the activation code.

Nice to have X2 back!
