hello
have been using PSP8 for a long time with no problems. i regularly copy files from my HD to a memory card but recently i have been getting the following error message for no apparent reason:
cannot copy [filename]: the directory or file cannot be created
if i try to copy a batch of files this does not happen for all files - just more recent ones. so half the files get copied, the others don't. i have checked file properties old files vs new and cannot see any difference. my memory card is not full.
any advice appreciated.
cannot copy file

Re: cannot copy file
It sounds more like you have a glitch in the programme.
Have your tried restoring to default and trying again?

Re: cannot copy file
Are you using PSP8 to copy files from one drive to another? I ask because it sounds more like the warnings I used to get long ago with FAT8 or FAT16 formatted disks. You could store a maximum of 512 files in the root directory, fewer if you used long file names (longer than 8.3 name.extent).
If you insert your card into your computer, open the Windows Explorer and right click on the drive to open Properties. Near the top of the first tab you should see Type of disk, and File system. If it's Fat or Fat16 I think that's the problem. You can do one of two things:
1) format as Fat32 to get more entries in the root. I'm not sure if "low" capacity media can be formatted FAT32, so a better option might be
2) create a sub-directory/folder and store the files in there. Subdirectories aren't limited to 512 8.3 files.
Of course I could be wrong. In that case disregard all the above.
Good luck.
