Docking Palettes

Post by vciro »

I have been trying to dock three palettes vertically on the right side of my work space but have had no luck at all. I have preferences checked to allow docking and have used the drop down on each palette to mark "docking" as opposed to floating. However, the palettes always stack horizontally (left to right) and very large as opposed to vertically and sized as I want them. I can float each palette and drag each to the right of the screen as shown but they will not dock like this. I have attached a capture file of what I want to happen and another with what happens. Is there a way to do this? :(

As always, many thanks,
Vinny from Long Island, NY

I'm able to get the configuration you are looking for and hope I can explain it properly. When you get the first docking prompt ignore it and keep dragging the palette to the far right under the material's palette and you should get a second docking prompt that will give you want you are looking for.

Dear Kathy,
My sincerest thanks!! It was a little tricky. After several frustrating tries, I finally figured out that I had to right click on each palette and check "docking" and then do what you said. It worked!
This was aggravating the heck out of me. I can't thank you enough. :D

I am having trouble docking again!!! Sorry to bother you. Can you explain how to dock the pallets VERTICALLY again. Mine just keep setting up next to each other.

Many Thanks,

If you drag the palette on top of another palette a special guide will pop up letting you dock the palette above or below the palette you're currently hovering over. Just drag the palette onto the guide to dock the palette.

What a struggle to stack docked palettes vertically! Thank you for the reply about the rather mysterious "special guide"!

Help state you can resize a palette by selecting a corner, but corners are not actually selectable: I can only select sides to make them narrower (not what I want). I could not find anything useful in HELP about the "guide".

This business of starting over with workspace and preference has been a sore point forever. I do upgrade periodically for fear of being left behind, even when there is little or no new functionality I care about. But every time I have spend hours customizing my new version and recreating my preferred workspace, colors, etc. Maddening!
