Hi
I've just downloaded the trial of PaintShop Pro as I'm looking for an alternative to Photoshop Elements.
Not a good start though, unfortunately.
Here is the problem:
1. I have File... Colour Management... Colour Management set to Enable Colour Management and Basic
2. I have tried File... Colour Management.. Colour Working Space set to Use Embedded Profiles
3. I have tried File... Colour Management.. Colour Working Space set to Ignore Embedded Profiles
What I want to do is open an image with an AdobeRGB profile. Have Corel ignore that. I don't mind the display space being sRGB. When I save the file I want it preserved as AdobeRGB.
With setting 2. above the image is converted to sRGB and I'm informed of that by a dialog box when I open it.
With setting 3. above the image silently acquires an sRGB profile when it is saved. I don't know if the pixel values were actually converted or whether this profile was just stuck on. I suspect the latter since there was no message. In this case the image has been corrupted.
Even if I turn off Enable Colour Management (step 1) the sRGB profile is still imposed with setting 3.
Is it possible to achieve what I want? PaintShopPro to respect my AdobeRGB profiles? If not it is back to Photoshop Elements (albeit though gritted teeth).
Thanks

Re: Colour management in Paint Shop Pro
What file type are you saving to?
As for the profile. PSP always tries to save the image with the profile that PSP is working in. This is because it wants the colors to come out as you see them on the screen.
If you are expecting AdobeRGB1998, then just set the working space for PSP to be that profile and you won't have to worry.
The only other thing I can recommend is, use Save As and not Save. When the Save As dialog pops up you will see a button to the right of the file type selection that says "Options."
Click on that. A dialog will pop up with options specific to the file type you're trying to save in. See if any of the options relate to color profiles. For example in JPEG it has a single checkbox to embed an ICC Profile, and that profile is always PSP's current working space profile. If you deselect Embed profile it will leave the profile alone. However, since you're using Save As chances are it'll just overwrite the file with no profile at all and not maintain the color profile.

Hi LeviFiction
Thanks.

It is as you say; PSP wants to save the file with the profile of the working space. If I turn off colour management it strips out the profile. If I turn it on I have two options: the file is automatically converted to the working space profile. Or, if I choose 'Ignore embedded profiles' it strips it out. As you say then the only way would be to set AdobeRGB as my working space. That is not ideal for me as I may sometimes want to be working with sRGB profiles and I don't want to have to chop and change a preference setting all the time.
At least this is all consistent however. But I do think that Photoshop Elements has this a bit better. There is an option essentially where it leaves your profile alone. And it doesn't strip it out. I don't know if you can set the working space; I think not. I guess it is always sRGB. So maybe in a way PSP is trying to offer more. It just seems a bit awkward for my purposes.
Thanks for the advice though.
