1 big problem (jumpy video) and a question. Please help :(
First the problem. I have made a DVD compliant mpeg2 file made with the hauppauge 350, it works fine in playback etc. I have DVD movie factory 3 with the latest Patches.
When I author the DVD with menu's etc everything works great, the preview shows no sign of error. However when I write to either an iso or a dvd the video on the dvd itself has a flaw. The video is jumpy, only slightly but it does. Kind of wobbly. Like I said, in the preview screen everything is great but once written its a different story (I mount the iso with alcohol120% then use powerdvd etc).
I cannot think what it is, the menu's etc do not jump just the captured video (which is flawless in the preview screen and with normal windows media player). There is no reencoding going on, just the usual multiplexing. ANY help greatful
Now my question, Is there anything by Uleadw hich is better at authoring dvd's than movie factory?
many thanks. Also note this is my only problem, This software is otherwise awesome

Nope I was wrong. Playback in windows is normal..iso's are fine as are the completed DVD played in windows regardless with any dvd software.
Its just on my TV where things are jumpy a small bit. Could this be becasue I used a low bitrate or because interlace problems are occuring?
(I made sure not to deinterlace or touch the output mpeg2 from hauppauge in any way)
Thanks in advance

When you captured the video what were the capture properties?
If the final destination for playback is TV then one should be using interlaced scanning.
Usually this is "Field B" for analog capturing.
Defined in MovieFactory as "Upper_Field_First > Field B"
If you right click on the video on the timeline and select properties the field order will be displayed.
EX: Field B, Field A, Framebased.

I had a similar problem a week ago where the final DVD showed wobbly and with stroboscope effects on a stand-alone DVD-Player on TV.
I found the solution myself which I posted here:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... ight=#1718
For encoding the analogue source, I use Field-type B (upper).
Also make sure to have the option "Leave compliant mpegs unchanged" checked.

The very same thing occurs to me.... and was asking if it was a Field Order matter...
Should we always use UPPER field when capturing analogue?
Thanks for any advice,

Well if it is dvd moviefactory it is tmpgenc aswell casue that is the same result....have no logical explanation.
either: There is something somehow wrong with the hauppauge mpeg2 file (that shows no sign of abnormality whilst on windows
or
The 2 dvd authoring programs I have used are somehow making this problem. My money is on number 1 but logically this is a real conundrum

When back home I tried to capture short clips from different satellite channels all with upper field, and with different (from the source) quality and motion / speed...
The result was, for every clip, good!!!
Thanks to all the guys,

Ok I converted my mpeg2 file to avi (deinterlaced) then let moviefactory put it back to a complient mpeg2 and it was burnt. The output is now not bouncy so this is certainly an interlace problem.
There is only 1 thing I can think of, Moviefactory/TMpgEnc are somehow doing something to create the wobble or the hauppauge source is somehow different interlace wise to normal mpeg2 interlaced files.
Like I said this came straight from hauppauge 350 as an interlaced full PAL video, i just put it into moviefactory and it does the rest, no encoding thats it
man I have to find out whats happening here its infuriating

If you do have the options in the capturing software to change the field
order then try changing it to the opposite setting (field).
Another way to test if the captured video is the correct field order is to
set the video card for TV output and using a software player on the computer play the file back via the TV (standard interlaced TV).
This will show if the field order is incorrect.
Tell the sotfware player NOT to de-interlace the picture.

If everything is fine in Windows and the field order setting is correct but your DVD still got problem on TV, check http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers to search your player to know if the disc media is compatible with your DVD player.
If you think the list is not easy to read, you can try to change the disc brand to the following: TDK, Sony, Mitsubishi, Maxell, CMC, Ritek, Prodisc. Some of them are not cheap but will have better compatibility with DVD players if compare to other disc brands.
If you are using DVD+R or DVD+RW, some DVD burner company will provide an Book-Type changing tool to set the DVD+R/RW media to be DVD-ROM, which will make the disc media to have the best compatibility with DVD players.
Hope this helps.
