I've just bought this program with an Easycap a month ago. I have a lot of VHS to capture to PC!
Every time I try to begin my big capture project it fails somehow. I've tried the Corel support, but they say they don't support this version.
At first I couldn't run the program because I have Windows 7, and the program needed the PC to be compatible with Windows XP. I changed it, so now the program works (VERY slowly), but it causes problems on the computer. The screen turns black from time to time, and a lille blue sign down with an "i" in the right corner tells me it has changed the colour schale. It is really annoying, cause it's slowing down everything.
- Does my computer really NEED to be compatible with XP to run the program?
I captured a VHS in format DVD, but when I took a closer look at the video, I could see that it did't run properly. As far as I can see, it's because it doesn't count regurarly when it captures - one second is longer than the next, and so it jumps back and forth. So the video quality is actually very bad and it gets more annoying throughout the video.
Then I tried to change the format into AVI, but everytime I get an "Unexpected error"-message, so I had to drop that.
Finally I tried the format WMV, and it worked a bit better - it didn't count as irregurarly as the format DVD, but still a bit. I could live with it, so I was actually happy. BUT! When I played the video after capturing, it was in really bad resolution and it isn't worth watching!
- How can I get it to count regurarly? And why do I get error with format AVI?
Although the video in format DVD was bad, I wanted to try to burn it, but then I had to stop my project once again! There's no button in the program that says "Burn". It seemed like some of the page was missing, cause I could see a bit of a button that lead back to the previous page when I clicked it.
- Isn't the program able to burn to discs? Or how do I get the whole page?
I gave up and tried to get other programs to burn the file, such as Windows, but it couldn't be played in the two DVD players we have in the house. It showed "Error" everytime. I tried finding capture freeware on the internet, but my computer crashed in the end.
Phew! I've really tried everything.
I hope someone can help me?
P.S. I'm not sure that the info about system drive (and all that) I've typed in my profile, is right, cause I don't know where to find the info, so I guessed. But please ask me, if it's neccesary in relation to my problems.

Hello Signe and welcome to the forum - we will see what we can do but I should say from the start that I am not over confident we can solve all your problems.
first you say you bought an Easy-Cap , is it actually called Easy-cap ? I ask because you should start by reading this topic :-

Not good
Next Ulead VideoStudio 10 is very very old - even with all the tweaking in the world I do not think it is ever going to run 100% on Windows 7 - in my view you are always going to have problems - the latest version of VideoStudio is X6 (thats 16) so you can guess how old 10 is. So yes for anything like sensible editing you need to have VideoStudio in full XP compatible mode.
Yes .wmv is a very low resolution format and is not that often used these days if you intend to burn a DVD and view your videos on a decent size TV you need at least DVD quality.
Yes VideoStudio - even version 10 is very capable of burning playable DVD's - providing you start with a DVD (mpeg-2) video and follow through the procedure in the Create Disc module.
You should find the 'Burn' icon in the Create Disc module - I am a bit hazy now on exactly how you got there in version 10 but almost universally in all versions of VideoStudio you start by clicking on 'Share' then Create disc - and on the last page in there is the burn icon - but one of the symptoms of incompatibility with your PC operating system is that some icons do not appear.
You could try downloading the free trial version of VideoStudio X6 which will give you 30 days to see if that works with your Easycap and how much different V16 is from V10
Sorry all is so negative but if you have a lot to do you really need to update a bit - if there is any way at all you can get a refund for your EasyCap and VS10 I would urge you to do that and go for a later version of VideoStudio and a proven capture device.

Re: Ulead Video Studio 10 and various problems
Thank you so much for the quick answer, Brian! I'm very thankful!
Unfortunately it's called EasyCap and it's exactly like the one on the picture. Crazy to find out I've bought a fake! And also that they still sell such an old version! I got to get my money back then... Sad.
Yes, I click "Create Disc" and comes to a page where some icons aren't shown - typically "Burn" is one of them... So to be sure: There's no way I can fix it?
I will download the latest version, but my experience with free trials tells me that there's a watermark on the video? I haven't got the money to buy a whole new program and a capture device again - I only bought this, cause it was cheap (now I know why!)
Thank you!

Re: Ulead Video Studio 10 and various problems
The free trial of VideoStudio is a 100% working copy with no restrictions at all in it's use - No Watermarks or any unwanted adverts at all - in fact if you choose to buy Corel say you can just insert the serial number they send you and carry on using - I would say though that on these forums we have seen quite a few people who find unexpected errors when they do that - so in general the advice from the users on here is to uninstall the trial (does not affect any personal files) then install the purchased version.
just for the record the device I use to transfer VHS to computer is this one ;-

not cheap I'm afraid and I must admit there are a lot cheaper but for me it worked 100% out of the box ever since I purchased it.

Re: Ulead Video Studio 10 and various problems
I've now tried the trial and I'm sorry to say I still got problems. The quality of the capture could be worse, but it's a bit unsyncronised. I decided to live with it and wanted to burn. This time the burn button exists! But the discs that comes out of it, isn't playable. I've tried two times and with different discs and in two different DVD players.
- What have I done wrong? Hmm
Thank you for sending a link - I gotta save up to one of those!

What does " isn't playable" mean? It is poor quality or you can't even play it or what?
BTW, Corel/Roxio also sell a VHS to DVD capture device along with the software.

I am afraid I can't see what your doing - could you first RIGHT click over the video in the VideoStudio timeline and from the fly out choose 'Properties' - please copy those properties (screen grab) and include it in your next post.
Then could you take us through each step of the burn process starting from when you click "Share >> Create disc" - what do you select - what settings do you make etc.
do you have the means to play a DVD on your computer - will it play there
hundreds of us burn DVD's regularly from VideoStudio so it can be done

Hi
You said
“I only bought this, cause it was cheap (now I know why!)”
Well the device does not perform very well, so whatever program you use to capture you will have problems
Also
The software packaged with the easycap device Video Studio 10 SE does not work correctly - after being tweaked by the provider. VS 10 was released before Vista was released, there were updates making it compatible to Vista, that’s sort of how far back the program goes.
If you had asked I could have sold you the EasyCap package at a reduced rate.
I finally purchased from Ezcap, this is packaged with its own Arcsoft capture software
So if you are using Easycap with Video Studio X6 you will have trouble capturing quality video.
To burn a disc – choose Share - Create Disc DVD
On the final page choose to burn a disc image, an iso file will be saved to your pc.
Use VLC Media Player to play the iso before burning a disc, at least you don’t make those coasters.
If you choose AVCHD the burn process will complete but you will need a Bluray player to play the disc.
