Re: CorelGuide seems to be offline since many days
Hi
And welcome to the forums
No official conformation of any problems, but thanks for the info.
I have also noticed that Corel Guides are having some problems over the past few days, it seems to be affecting all versions.
Today I also noticed this morning that the Knowledge Base is also unavailable, just tried and still a problem.
I will check this out again usually Corel are aware and probably working on the servers, but will try to report the problems?
Update
Just tried the corel guides using, X5 and X6 and all seemed ok.
I have to say that the first access was very slow but worked.
Video Studio X4 has had problems for a while Corel are aware (reported 24th Sept)
Not fixed.

Re: CorelGuide seems to be offline since many days
Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate, all patches applied.
For some time now I have exactly the same: Corel Guide does not work. It tries to connect while freezing VideoStudio. Then in the Corel Guide window it says "Can not find page" and that window can not be closed. Have to close VideoStudion with the Windows Taskmanager. At first I thought it was my firewall but that is working fine.

Yes a number of members have reported problems with the Corel guide in the different versions of VideoStudio - seems something may be wrong on the Corel server - we have sent them messages but it still seems to be happening.
in the meantime you should be able to close the Corel guide - even though it has not opened correctly by pressing 'alt' and F4 together at the same time say yes to the question box and the guide should close allowing you to use VideoStudio.

Ah, thanks for the Alt/F4 tip, works great!BrianCee wrote:Yes a number of members have reported problems with the Corel guide in the different versions of VideoStudio - seems something may be wrong on the Corel server - we have sent them messages but it still seems to be happening.

And hope Corel is going to fix this. The complete Help and everything is totally useless. But have to say, this is going on longer then a few weeks: I encountered this already 2 months ago. Very bad that Corel still did not fix this issue and that it is not in the mentioned in their FAQ.
Btw: this Corel Guide thing, is it the same in X6? Though about updating but to be honest I totally dislike HTML features (I one of those anti Cloud persons

Yes X6 has virtually the same arrangement with the Corel Guide - just different content.
Why not download the FREE 30 day trial of X6 and check it out for your self

Well, they seem not be be in a hurry to fix this: Corel Guide still not there. I have to say: I like the product but their support is really, really weak
Just found out that normal support is no more after 90 days. After that you have to pay??

Re: CorelGuide seems to be offline since many days
That's strange. I just accessed the Corel Guide. I could access and watch tutorials under Learn. And I downloaded several of the Do More items I had not previously installed. So it is certainly working down here in the antipodes!

Re: CorelGuide seems to be offline since many days
Here it is still not working, has been like this for around 2 months now. Getting the same as the original poster is showing in his screenshot followed by a blank screen with the text "This page can not be displayed. Check if the URL is right."
Does anybody know what the base URL is for the guide? Then I can do a tracert and maybe see where it goes wrong from here. Here is in the Netherlands btw

Re: CorelGuide seems to be offline since many days
Hi
I have just tried in the UK and the X5 guide opens ok.
There was some issues a few weeks ago but Corel seems to have fixed them.
I have to say that the Do-More tab is only displaying one item, although I have only recently re-installed the program and from experience know the Do-More may take a few days to load correctly.
But the Guide does load and I can navigate through all options.
-----------------------------------------------
Maybe the browser is using the cached history refresh.
Try using CTRL+ F5 for non-cached refresh, I do not know how this affects the pop-up windows.
Otherwise try deleting your browser history.
As far as I know the program uses Internet Explorer as its browser.
And no I do not know the URL of the guide, I had thought of searching but where to start.
Have you tried resetting the program, this will reset the library so do a backup before you start

Ok, tried what you suggested: did clear IE cache, clear browser history and so on. Did the X5 reset. But still the guide is not working. Still getting the screen that the original poster posted. It freezes X5 completely. Have to wait until I get the "Can not find page" screen, do the Alt/F4 trick and then X5 is working again.

Re: CorelGuide seems to be offline since many days
Hi
If this has been mentioned before then ignore the following paragraph.
There have been some issues with IE and browser plug-ins, not sure if they affected the Corel Guide, but certainly caused problems. The following plug-ins are known to cause problems, View your Control Panel -- Programs and Features if you find these then remove them…
“Browser manager”, "Babylon" or "BrowserProtect"
Do a search of the Corel Knowledge Base for more info.
OK
When you download from the Corel Guide they are saved to the pc in a Download folder along with messages to the Message folder here:-
C:\ProgramData\Corel
I believe the Program Data folder may be hidden by the operating system (Show Hidden Files and Folders option)
I do not know if part of these messages contain details to access the Corel Guide server or simply messages relating to your downloads?
The folders have unusual names (540233871_317005) doesn’t give any indication of its content, think that is for X5.
I have however deleted these without problems.
I would not delete the downloads, just in case you are unable to download again?
If you haven’t done so you may be best to re-install the program.
I have just re-installed my Video Studio programs and am having some problems with the X5 guide, although I can access the guide there is no Templates Tab??

Re: CorelGuide seems to be offline since many days
Since this thread is about X5, I should mention that when I open X5 -- as I have just done -- the Corel Guide displays perfectly under each tab -- all the tutorials under LEARN; lots of templates under each of the Do More tabs, and under ALL the box is brim full, requiring scrolling down to get to the bottom. And at least some of them appear to relate solely to X5. I just, for example, downloaded and installed the X5 Bonus Pack. I watched the installation process and everything used X5 directories.
I also just installed one of the X5 title packs I had not previously installed. The attached image shows the Guide and installation process targeting X5. When I reopened X5, the extra titles were there, and the Guide continued to behave as before with full tabs.
So everything appears to be working for me -- though I acknowledge that quite a few others are having trouble. What the difference is, I have no idea. I have to confess, though, that I haven't opened X5 in months before today.

Re: CorelGuide seems to be offline since many days
I just uninstalled X5 and installed it again. The Corel Guide now works but only half of it. The Home and Learning tabs are giving connection error, see screenshots. The language you see is Dutch
But it gets weirder: when I check for updates, it says there are updates. Check again, an then it says there are no updates. Also when checking the Messages tabs: one time there is a message, next time there is no message and next time the message is back.
Also, my Do More tab only has 3 tabs (Audio, Tools and All) and there are only 2 things listed under All.
I will not use the online update, don't trust that at all. I did download the SP1 and SP2 for X5 from Corel site itself and will use that. And then see what happens to the Guide.
