X6: PNG optimization write files with wrong extension

Post by Pixel_Pusher »

I am testing PSP X6 (I have all versions since V7) and now I get wrong files with the PNG Optimization. This functions used to write files with the extension png but now it writes png files with the extension pspimage. If you try to open such a file you will get error messages.

PSP seems to be back with version X6 with again destroyed old functions. It seems so as if will not buy the update this time. Enough is enough. With each new version I get new bugs in old functions.

I have just loaded a jpg into X6 32 bit on XP home computer and also in X6 64 bit version on Win 7 Laptop.
Did Save as and in Options changed to PNG file, then in dialog box ran Optimiser and left it at the defaults and clicked OK and Save. Both files were saved as png files and did not show a psp extension. So you may need to provide a more detailed step by step procedure if others are to duplicate what you claim is a bug in PSP X6.

I use the function 'file - export - PNG optimization'.
I made a new test and now it works. That's very strange because I had the problem twice (yesterday and today).

Just tested and if you use Save As and change the save as type, the optimiser uses that type as the save type whereas it should save as a png. Yes another bug.

Aye, noticed this too. Bit annoying. It would be great if it would have png compression efficiency slider (speed vs. compression ratio) because the current one produces really, really, unoptimised png's.

That doesn't happen here.
I tried all three methods:
I have the PNG Optimizer on the Toolbar - works fine.
Used File>Export>PNG Optimizer fine (which is the same as the customized setting on the Toolbar) - works fine
Used Save as, which is isually set to .pspsimage, changed that to PNG - works fine.

No bugs.

Sorry for being unclear about this.
1. Load a jpg image into X6.
2. File > Save as and change the save as type to say Tif. The name of that file on the workspace will now say .tif
3, Click OK to save that file into a folder (I use a TEMP folder on my desktop to test these features.) Then verify that the file has been saved with the .tif extension that you used.
4. Now with that same file still on your workspace do File> Export > PNG Optimiser and in the PNG Optimiser dialog box that opens, just click OK. (Don't change anything or you will confuse the issue)
5. It will now come up with the Save copy as box and the File name will have the extension added for the last used save (which will be the name extension for the file) or the current name of a new file if you bring a different one in .
The Save as type says correctly .png, but continuing the save will save it with the name and .tif extension. When opening with Irfanview it complains that the file is a png file with an incorrect extension.

The point is that when the optimiser comes to the Save copy as dialog box it should drop any extension from the File name or change it to png as it does in X3, X4, X5.

Thanks hartpaul, that is exactly what is happening on my computer and it disturbs my way of work.
I do not know how to send bugs to Corel. To the german support team I will no longer send bug informations because they are incompetent and give me stupid answers like "we cannot help you because you didn't buy support".
