screen recording in VideoStudio Pro X5

Post by ellengard »

I am making a video tutorial on using a desktop publishing program. Everything is recording fine EXCEPT when I hover over a tooltip or click for a drop-down box. I can see the tooltips and drop-down boxes during the recording session, but (how odd!) VideoStudio doesn't record them.

When I play the wmv file, the cursor hovers over an invisible tooltip and the cursor moves down the invisible options in the invisible drop-down box.

Is this a bug in the program? I can find no setting that would cause this.

Thanks for any help.

That is indeed very strange - mine all record with no problem at all - must be something to do with your computer - is your Quicktime player up to date.

Check your graphics card settings, turn off acceleration, ensure graphics card drivers are up to date.

Thank you for your replies. Since it has been a while, I went and updated my graphics card driver. Found no way to turn off acceleration though.

I have tried two different free screen recorders and they both recorded exactly what was happening on the screen, unlike VideoStudio X5.

I do not have Quicktime on my PC - have never needed it. I will install it and see if that makes any difference at all.

I have a feeling, since the freebie screen recorders aren't making anything invisible, that VideoStudio X5 will not improve no matter what I do. I will still use VSX5 to edit and add sound, but I'll be stuck with using the free recorders which don't have the easy to use interface and options of VSX5.

Update: Adding Quicktime (7.7.4) to my Win 7 computer made no difference. VSX5 still cannot record drop-down menus and tooltips. Such a disappointment that I can't use this program for screen recording. I really did like its ease-of-use.
