PSP X6 Question on why it won't save text

Post by Chromenut »

In previous versions, that is in those prior to X4, whenever you typed in text on an image, you could set up your preferences to where it would save the text, so next time you click on the text button, the same text would be there so you don't have to continuously rewrite/retype text every time.

I know, confusing, trying to post it here so you can understand what I'm saying, so here's the first image, just typed in the text that you can see...

Now, you click on an image, or the same image, with the text tool, and all you see is the flashing cursor (text area highlighted in yellow):

Now I've searched diligently through PSP X6 and these forums but cannot find any way to set that up for X6. Used to be when you clicked the text on the image, it would immediately drop in the same exact text you had last entered. That is frustrating as heck, because in the older versions it was quite simple but I cannot find out how to save the text in X6. Anyone got any suggestions????

When you have the Text tool selected, hold down your Shift key when clicking in the image area to enter the text. You'll get a subwindow with a text entry field and the option to "Remember" the text.

While you will probably prefer the text box just know that PSPX6 does also have a Remember Text button on the toolbar. You aren't forced to use the text box to get that option.

It's actually right next to the Create As: drop down. There is a little toggle button, that in X5 looks like a floppy Disk with a T on it. I'll have to see if it's the same in X6 when I get home. But that button when highlighted will remember your text. When deselected won't.

Getting it to deselect can be a bit of a pain.
I click the Cancel any changes and all text is gone. As soon as I use the text tool, the remember text activates. I can't click it off.
I am then stuck with text previously typed.
The only way to remove the remember is holding the shift key, untick remember text.

Not the "only" way. Though probably the fastest.

Though it should not work this way, the reason the toggle button doesn't remember if you cancel the text is because of the dumb way they keep track of text changes. Canceling undoes all changes to the text settings and is the only way to undo a change.

The solution, then, is to accept the new text after toggling the remember text button. Then just undo. This will remove the recently added text, but the Remember Text toggle being off will be remembered.
