having an issue with sound on export of video

Post by cperg »

About 1 month working with X6 Pro. The video export is great when viewed from my PC hard drive. The trouble has been only when i post it to youtube (I have not tried to post to one of my websites directly/ this might be a good test but right now it is not the objective for this project). I use the export to my local disk using mp4 and HD 720. The problem is not consistent across multiple OS, browsers and devices. On my PC its just fine,on an android the sound is extremely weak as it is for windows 8 / IE viewing. Firefox and Chrome also seem to not have any trouble when used to view the video from my Windows 7 PC.

I had placed music on the appropriate track and was able to hear this faintly. None of the voice for the narration is coming through. I have tried exporting to a different format WMV. This has made difference. I have now tried removing the music and "split audio" and them moving it to the music track. I still got no sound.

The fact that is plays beautifully under certain circumstances and not others "to me" means unusual codecs perhaps?

Does anyone have ideas other than the codecs?

If it is codecs I am absolutely lost on the matter as there are so many and there seems to be nowhere in the VS Pro software where one is selected (of course I could just be not seeing it in front of my face). I have been trying different ways of increasing the sound and pushing the limits of the audio tracks with the standard volume and the amplifier filter.

Just managed to do a remote session to a different Windows 8 PC. We were able to hear the sound on the video. This combined with my friend not being able to haer the sound on his Window 8 PC using the IE browser makes me believe it has something to do with codecs. It is only consistently without sound on an Android. Have not tried an iPhone as of yet.

To perhaps get some other opinions here is a link to the video at youtube.

Thanks for any suggestions or investigation in advance,

Hi Chris

Most if not all codecs are installed by installing programs, so you should not require additional codec packs. Windows Media Player is installed with Windows 7 and I assume 8 as well
Some info on WMP from Microsoft with detailed information about supported file formats
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... b08650dbec

Windows Media Encoder will also install some additional codecs

----------------------------
Video Studio X6 installs Quicktime required for Mov if you have not installed VS then you may need to install Quicktime. Otherwise update to the latest version.

There are some free media players -- VLC Media Player is very good and seems to play most formats
http://www.videolan.org/

Just to sum up I would:-
Update Windows Media Player to latest version
Install Quicktime to the latest version
Install VLC Media Player, I use VLC as my default player

Works fine on Win 7 IE10 pc.
Can hear voice and background music fine on windows phone, nokia Lumia 900, running windows 7.8 and in the Youtube app. There is some OOS with voice over though, but not that disconcerting.
I don't have any android devices to try I'm afraid.

I really want to thank lata and skier-hughes for your earnest information and time taken to test the link.

As far as the codecs go I am not sure if the codecs matter on both the creation side or the playing side. My W7 PC has had Windows Media Player removed as I prefer other players. There have been times over the years where I have installed multiple other codec packages too. The isolated W8 PC may be just a codec from the player side.

I am going to to install Media Player on this machine to see if the problem comes from my creation of the video. Check with my bud in Brazil and see if he still has trouble after that.

I am going to look for codecs for android - perhaps "there's an app for that".

If anyone has some more clarification concerning codecs and how they work on either side play or creation, especially as it pertains to VS Pro 6X for creating video (mp4).

If anyone wants to do an inexpensive video shoot setup.
The live portions of the video were shot using three Kodak Playtouch cams mounted in a home made plain glass teleprompter. The cameras were set to 720p resolution and each camera was set to a slightly different angle and zoom factor. I ended up using only one of the camera's footage. The mic jacks in each Playtouch were connected to a Vid-Pro XM-88 Shogun Mic. I passed the shotgun mic thru a four port audio video splitter. Three of the jacks outputs, of course, went to the cameras. The fourth I used to a set of headphones for sound check. The headphone line had to be run through a preamplifier. I also purchased a light set from LimoStudio. I used Swish for my back ground graphic production of text and moving logo. Plan to calm the animation down in the next remake of the project.

OOS? Sorry but I am not at all familiar with that term. I would assume it has something to do with over amplification of the voice track. I did amplify the track that was recorded from the shotgun mic into the video shoots with an amplification filter and drove the sound setting to 500 just to see if this would fix the issue of low sound. In the instances of low sound I have noticed that the only sound that is heard at all is the one labeled music track in VS Pro X6 and it was very faint. If this is causing the voice to spike past clarity I can easily drop the higher settings. They didn't help anyway.

OOS - out of sync, so the audio and visuals did not match.

CODEC COmpressor and DECompressor

To play the video properly you need the codec that made the video (installed on the making pc) to ne installed on the machine that is playing it back.

Adding codec packs is not a good idea, they add so many that it can complicate matters and the player does not know which codec to use, also it can tell players to use certain codecs in order of importance, so this confuses players as well.
Always best to install just the one codec you need to play the video you have. There are programmes that will tell you the codec required, such as Gspot and avicodec

Hi

I agree with Graham that additional codec packs are not the answer and may cause additional problems.

For Youtube and other internet playback flash player may/will be required, so update flash to the latest version.

The youtube video seems ok, but as Graham has noticed there is a little OOS (lip sync), however the last comments from the guy is more of a “tongue twister”

The question has to be asked, is the Lip Sync noticeable on the original recorded video or introduced during editing?

I just came across a post here that spoke of limits for sampling rates for mp4. I think I have set the sampling rate very high in an earlier piece of software from NCH. For this project I used that software to cut my segments into pieces. It had a shorter learning curve for that activity. I then output mp4 that looked and sounded just great from my desktop. I used those mp4s to build the final project in VideoStudio Pro X6. I think I will go back and recheck those settings and attempt to export the pieces with a lower sample rate.

I have stepped back to the original mp4 that came from the camera. I put that mp4 into VS Pro X6 in the track at the top. I have created a mp4 from that project file and then uploaded it to YouTube. No sound on the android. I am now trying to export the audio from the same project and then place that audio into the track at the bottom. The bottom track is where I do get the music to play faintly...

No luck with that either. I must now drop this "witch hunt". LOL

We are going to solve this trouble after we get some more information concerning Android OS. It seems as though this is the only remaining trouble OS for this project.

The OOS issue may be resolved - the current video is in sync by my my viewing. Of course others with a better eye/ear might well know more. Please let me know if you still see OOS.

I really appreciate the help and direction given to me on this issue. If I find a solution to this or at least some conclusion I will post it here to make sure someone else may be able to find it. Even though we must go live soon this issue is not closed for me until I understand why and what .

Hi

I have done a Google search regarding Android and Quicktime also Android and MP4 playback.

Seems there is a problem with Android, and installing the correct player cures problems at least for some.
Google Play popped up a few times, view this link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ayer&hl=en

With this link making good reading, maybe not if you own an Android as HD is not available on all devices?????

Thank you for your diligence and help. One question and the answer might well be related to the solution. Why is Quicktime a part of this search? The reason I ask this is for many years I have refused to install Quicktime due to its incessant drive to upgrade and to add iTunes to my PC. I have had no use for the functionality of QuickTime, yet if it is part of the solution here I will definitely reconsider. If it is a considered solution would it be required to add the Pro version or is it sufficient to just install the free version?

Quicktime is a vital and important part of using VideoStudio we know from past experience that many functions do not work correctly or at all without Quicktime

sorry but you do really need to bite the bullet - grit your teeth and install Quicktime - just the free version will do VideoStudio usually adds Quiktime on its install.

I can't guarantee that it will solve this particular problem but it will eliminate a possible cause

I can certainly comment with assurance that the response on this forum is great. Thanks to everyone who has answered my call for help.

My thoughts are now concentrating on the QT installation. I have not had QT installed at all on my machine, yet I believe that I have had every function of the system work. To report that I have it installed now is to say I believe that it is important for the function of VS Pro X6 - Did I miss something in the reading surround my installation of the product? I must have seen the request to install QT and said no. There is a folder from a previous installation of windows I had that contains an old version of QT on this PC but it is not installed. Perhaps the VS installer just checks for a known file in the folder and not if the registry knows about the installation of QT.

I did try playing the video that is uploaded at YT in QT from my local drive. It does sound exactly like the YT version does on my Android phone. This is a excellent finding. Now if I can get a video to play in QT and on YT on my PC I believe the Android issue will be solved.

Thanks again guys.

Just be very slow and careful when installing it, read through each page before clicking next or I agree, as QT likes to take control of all images and music files.
You can quite safely tell it to have no connection with any music or video or picture file, so that whichever is your narmal app will continue to be the one used.
