I don’t understand why opening a new project should then allow you to add your images, but if that works then that’s all that counts.
Do you have any other issues in running the program or accessing the library clips?

The easiest way to insert an image to the timeline is to right click the timeline and choose Insert Photo.
Hey Trevor! Thanks for the info, I did try just the simple "insert" for photos and that didn't work. Once I opened a new project, then inserted photos directly into the timeline, then I could do the simple insert. If I tried before that it kept saying the photos were not the correct image types, etc.

It's still aggravating as I can't do it the easy way that worked fine in X4, but at least I've found a method that works. There really is something wrong with X6.

The simple "insert" for photos works just fine so there is nothing wrong with X6 itself but something in your install/setup/system or your photos.

I don't agree with that. I'm on Win 7, 64bit and that appears to be the issue. Top notch laptop and yet X6 is not the only program having problems. I don't believe they dedicated their strength to insuring it would load up perfectly. X4 works fine, has a few minor issues still, but X6 has major issues and it's not my computer, it's Corel. You can state whatever you want, but there are lots of people having issues with X6 right now.

Hi Chromenut

Given that you are using a Lenovo Laptop and that was the type I had the graphics driver issues, are you 100% sure its not a similar problem?

Cos nothing else makes sense, I didn’t believe it when I finally fixed it as the Laptop was brand new, even so Windows Updates listed a newer driver in its optional updates, which did not show for auto updates
I realise my problem was with X5 but feel it would have been the same with X6, I cannot turn back time to test again, and certainly not gonna un-install the driver just to try.

Good point Trevor! Maybe that is the problem. Wonder what driver I should check up on, maybe update it???

Lata & Trevor - based on your suggestions and comments, I've uploaded 47 new drivers now, including a whole suite of graphics drivers, and guess what? Drum roll please!................................................ IT'S FIXED!

No more problems uploading photos now, so thank you! I would suggest that same thing, check for updated graphic drivers, and then the whole phoney issue of file format mismatch goes away!

Good News is always welcome, but still don't understand why Lenovo seem to have graphics driver issues.

A Happy New Year to you
