HOW ANGRY DO I REALLY NEED TO BE?

Post by Chromenut »

Anger and frustration regarding PSP X6 64 bit!

Why do plugins that have been on there for a long time not work with the 64 bit version?

Why, on God's Green Earth, would you all of a sudden have all of your client's plugins stop working?
The problem is that the "you" you are ranting at is not Corel. This is a user to user web board run by users like you who volunteer their time to help out other users. We may sympathize with your rant, but will only be able to help if you give us more details on what plug-ins your need to get working. Some of the other users here may be able to help.

anger and frustration reduced, but still, why do the fancy plugins not work on 64 bit?

You need to direct at least some of your anger at the makers of the plugins for not providing 64 bit versions.

If I remember correctly, at the time we crossed over from 16 to 32 bits, someone came out with an app that converted a large portion of the better plug-ins to the new format. I for one, hope the same will happen here.
Totally sympathizing with your sentiment here;

I don't think you have followed what Ken said - we are not Corel - we cannot go back to Corel and tell them any thing - if we were Corel we probably would have deleted your rant - but we are all USERS - none of us are employed by Corel or receive any payment from Corel.

We understand your frustration and annoyance many of us have been through it - but emerged happy by keeping calm and using the free help supplied by the many other users on these forums

This is an example of X6 and how its a total failure for 64 bit users!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chromenut:

Your anger is all about one tiny (for you major, for me tiny) aspect of X6. If you read other threads you may notice a large number of users very happy that there is 64 bit version. I have no problem switching between the 32 and 64 bit versions when needed as I have both installed.

Did you feel the same anger when the eight track was replaced by the cassette or when blue ray replaced the DVD?

My response to the question posed in the subject - take a deep breath and let it out slowly.

It should be noted, 64-bit was one of the most requested feature by users. So Corel listened to the users and made a 64-bit version. SInce you asked why they would even make a 64-bit version. That's why, because we wanted it.

As has been stated - The installer also allows you to install both 32-bit and 64-bit so it's not like you're stuck with 64-bit. You didn't only buy the 64-bit version, PSP packages them both in the same installer.

It's not Corel's fault that 32-bit plugins don't work with 64-bit programs. Photoshop has the same problem. So long as you've installed the 32-bit version as well you have options.

As I see it it's not a case of 64 bit plugins NOT working. It's simply a case of users not understanding what Corel never explained!!!!!
So Corel, IMHO, would do themselves a favour by publishing the specs/limits of the 64bit version. Thus everyone could see for themselves what would and wouldn't work. What advantages there were or weren't. Avoid any misunderstanding of what going to 64 bit actually means to a user.
There is an assumption that going to 64 bit involves, "going to 64 bit". And that's the problem. 'Going to 64 bit' needs to be clarified. By someone! (May I use the car analogy? Buying an all wheel drive and expecting it to do the same task as a 4x4. It wont, but do car manufacturers make that clear in their sales propaganda?).

Maybe someone here, smarter than me, could make a post that 'clarifies' the differences, and limits, of upgrades. Maybe a locked thread that could be use as each new version/upgrade is released by Corel.

I have edited all of my posts here simply because I totally appreciate the feedback from everyone and add to it, I thought this was a Corel site. Now I get it, and I've pulled my head out of where it was stuck.

Okay, whew... thanks to all of you fine gents for your very well made replies. Now at least you have reversed my anger and frustration and truthfully, that was my biggest issue, not just the fact that PSP x6 runs differently in 64 bit. Now I understand and can at least hang on to it.

Again, thank you all for such fabulous replies!

I think that even Microsoft had updated versions of Windows that did not support older hardware or at least untinl the older hardware companies decided to update their drivers etc.
Even the much vaunted photoshop would not at one stage process Raw images from a Canon MkII when it first came out.
Its a case of companies racing ahead with a product and support companies catching up if they decide to do so. This will depend if they want to support old printers and old plugins or make money by bring out a new compatible printer and plug in .
I have ld programs that ran on windows 98. In no way would I expect them to run on Windows 7 nor wild I expect Microsoft to spend money making modifications to make them work, also I would not expect the old program designers to update their programs to make them work with the latest versions of Windows.
Programs, (including plugins) , equipment, becomes outmoded. New equipment / programs makes the producers more money than trying modifications.

I have an old Canon scanner which will not work with my 64 bt Windows 7 because of Twain incompatibility. I can still run the scanner on Windows XP and using PSP X2, X3,x4,x5,x6 32 bit versions. So I will do all my scanning on the XP Home with any of those programs. (good reason for keeping some old equipment and programs).

I have bought a newer scanner which is compatible with windows 7 and X2, but have yet to test it on X6 and the 64 bit version. But I ask myself what set of conditions occurring regularly would require the scanner to work with the 64 bit X6. I am still doing most of regular processing of images on X2 (because the mouse wheel lets me go into the corners ). My text on images work on X4, and occasionally boot up X5 and X6 to test out some "features" or reproduce some faults that others are experiencing.

[(Tongue in cheek) It would be nice if I could get PSP X6 to make a good cup of coffee, control a burglar system, activate my toaster and check when I am running short of groceries. But guess I will have to wait for PSP XXX302 for that to happen. No use complaining though. Ohh and I want it all for just $10 bucks or I will insult Corell and go look at Photoexpensive .]
It would be nice
