Please help w/creating DVD/movie
Hi, I need some help and this board was VERY helpful in the past (if it ain't broke...). I am using VideoStudio X4 and I am trying to eventually burn some files to a DVD to be able to play them in my DVD player. I am creating a DVD in VideoStudio (with files that were converted from a 8mm tape), and then burning them to a disk. But, somehow I'm thinking I need TS_Audio and Video files? When I put it in the player, it says "no audio". I did this before (about 5 months ago), and to be honest, I don't know what I did different. Back then, I used SOThink Movie DVD maker and I know that disk has the folders I mentioned above. It must be something I'm doing/not doing in VideoStudio. Thanks so much, I really appreciate the help...I'm trying to make these for my sister's birthday.

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
A video DVD contains two folders: Video_TS and Audio_TS. However, the latter is almost invariably empty... though such a folder needs to be on the actual DVD disc. The audio of your video is -- or should be -- embedded in the video stream as part of it. The Video_TS will be populated by files with various extensions: .ifo (information files); .bup (backup files) and the all important .vob files which are the main video of the DVD.
I am assuming the video files you have converted from 8mm movies are in mpeg-2 format, but could you confirm that? To do so, right click on one of the files in either the Video Studio timeline or in its library window, and choose Properties. Please copy all the Properties here, or if you know how, upload a screen grab of the Properties box.
Depending on their properties, your files could already be DVD-compliant mpeg-2. In that case, all you need to do is choose Share > Create Disc > DVD (if your videos are an hour or less long). The burning module will then open, and you Insert your various files into the burning timeline. Then you build your menu. Put in a blank DVD into your burner, then burn. A video DVD should be produced.
But get back to us with those Properties, and we can provide more advice if further adjustments are necessary.

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
Yes, I created MPEG2 files, I attached a screenshot of the properties. I didn't realize you could burn DVD's from this software...but I followed your instructions and thought it was going OK. Left for a little bit and came back to an error on the screen (attached a screenshot of that). Hopefully, that helps, let me know if you need anything else and THANKS AGAIN for your help!!!

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
Other users who have received the unspecified error message have managed to work around the problem by using the following procedure.
With your project in the timeline instead of "Share >> Create Disc" - go to "Share >> Create Video File" and choose DVD - then choose one of the options which suits your project- now choose where to save it and give the new file you are about to create a unique name so that you do not mix it up with any other files. click save in that box to create a new video file. Play that file in windows media player (or other player you have) to confirm the file is good.
Now close down VideoStudio - after a few seconds start VideoStudio again but do NOT open any projects - go straight to "Share >> Create disc" and when the window opens use the icons at top left to import your new video file - once that file is in the burn timeline see if you can create a iso file. If you do not see that option in the final 'burn' screen click the double downward pointing arrow on the right side of the window. When the iso is created you can play it just like a DVD in the FREE VLC player you can download from :- http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
This will prove that your disc image is good.
Now burn your .iso file to DVD - if you do not have a programme such as Roxio which will burn iso file to DVD then see if this works for you - RIGHT click over the iso file in it's folder and choose "open with >> Windows disc Image burner" and burn the file to DVD - if you do not have that option then please go here for info on burning iso files to disc :- http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofth ... sofile.htm
Latest versions of VideoStudio include the option to burn iso files to DVD - but not X4.
When Ken asked for the properties of your file we expected you to put the video into the VideoStudio timeline then right click and choose properties, this would have given us information like that below :- not just the windows file properties.

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
OK, I was following your instructions, and here is what I can't figure out:
I did that, but am I supposed to check that option as I did? I attached a screen shot, and I also created a screenshot of the properties in VideoStudio. Hope that is clear, I'm not sure what to do from this point...If you do not see that option in the final 'burn' screen click the double downward pointing arrow on the right side of the window

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
Yes that is correct - now UNCHECK burn to disc and click the 'Burn" icon to make an iso file - and continue as my post above.

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
OK, will do. This was on a Corel site (Corel Discovery Center), do you agree I could use this fix?

Solution:
If you are getting the getting the “Unspecified Error” when creating a disc using VideoStudio Pro X4, just download the file afCvtTitleMenuRenderUnit.dll (attached below) and copy it to directory where you installed VideoStudio Pro X4 folder.
Windows XP:
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
Again, thank you both so much for your help! I did successfully burn the ISO file, and I downloaded the VLC media player, and wallah, it worked! So, now I just need to burn it to a disk. I did download that file I posted about, but still got the stupid unspecified error.
I didn't have the option of Windows, but I do have IMGBURN. When I go to the link that was suggested, it does list IMGBURN at the end. Do you reocmmend FreeISOBURNER over IMGBURN? And, if you are familiar with IMGBURN, which option to I use? I did try to use that originally, and that's where it didn't read it in my DVD player. They suggest: CDBurnerXP, ImgBurn, InfraRecorder, BurnAway Free, and Free CD DVD Burner. Do you recommend any of those over the other?
Also, this may sound like a dumb question, but does Corel allow you to upgrade? Since I have X4, could I upgrade to X5? That way, I could just do this all in one program...

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
If you have an iso which plays in VLC then you should now be able to burn a working DVD
I think IMGBURN is used by a number of our users - I personally do not use it because as I say X6 comes complete with an iso burn addon so I have no advice on settings - but in any of the programmes I have used you just burn the iso to DVD without any special settings.
I think Ken has used it and no doubt will be able to offer advice - but he is down in New Zealand and will not be with us for another 4 hours or so.
with regard to upgrading - you can of course upgrade any time you want - but not for free if that's what you are asking - as an X4 user you can upgrade to X6 (latest version) for only $49:99 - see here :- http://www.corel.com/corel/product/inde ... rod4900075

With ImgBurn when burning an iso file to a DVD there is only one option you can use: "Write image file to disc"
Since you didn't tell us what you did when you " I did try to use that originally, and that's where it didn't read it in my DVD player" we can't tell why it did not work.

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
Canuck-to be honest, I don't remember which option I did in IMGBURN, I just gave up and went to SOThink and then noticed the same error about "can't find audio" (both disks had that error).
Brian, I did not think it was for free, but it might be worth the investment to upgrade just to use one piece of software ;o)
Thanks again, off I go to IMGBURN to hopefully watch my videos in the DVD player...

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
Hi
Download the trial version of X6 and use Tools – Burn from Disc Image option, give it a run.
If you are really stuck I can provide the Image Burn files from VS 10.
The Iso you created is an image of the disc and should burn a disc without any further conversions, You should get on disc what is on the ISO.

Re: Please help w/creating DVD/movie
I'm assuming it's a 30 day trial? It would serve my purpose for now, but I'd just have to go back to my other way after it expires. I will probably just do the upgrade in the future...but thank you!
