Installation problem

Post by Takoateli »

I have an installation problem, and it appears that Corel doesn't give even the most basic support for free.

I purchased an upgrade version, and Corel provided me with an activation key at purchase, but the software was asking for the key for previous version which I didn't have, so Corel provided me a key to use for that too. The problem is after a clean install of Windows 8 Pro the codes aren't working. Does anyone know why codes that were working might not work any more?

Is there an app in Corel's line up which might be considered the sequel to PhotoImpact? Maybe it's better to just upgrade.

Thanks guys.

I am not at all sure PhotoImpact will work on Windows 8 at all - - PhotoImpact is no longer available in many parts of the world.

It depends on exactly what you use PhotoImpact fro as to whether there is a suitable alternative for you - have you looked at Corel PhotoShop Pro - does that do what you want, why not download the free trial and see.

No, it doesn't work with Windows 8

According to Corel it doesn't work with Windows 8, the program won't install, it won't accept the serial number.

To make things even worse, they don't even offer a discount for a supported product.

Bye bye Corel

It does work on Win8 as I have it installed on a Win8 64bit machine.

I sometimes get hiccups with it but that's all. Lol, I always use PSP now!

I just downloaded PhotoImpact X3 and purchased a serial number. When I try to activate the software it just says that activation failed, check your internet connections. I chatted with a Corel Agent and he said that PI will not work with Windows 8. He said the trial might but not the activated version.

This seems real odd since I have PhotoImpact XL from Ulead installed and it runs fine. The agent also said that PhotoImpact XL would qualify for the the upgrade to Corel PhotoImpact X3.

I have Windows 8.1 64bit and have PhotoImpact installed.

Whoever you spoke with at Corel and said the registered version won't work but the trial will doesn't know what he's talking about, I'm sorry to say.

Try running in compatibility mode if you are having problems.

Thanks a lot. I installed PhotoImpact X3 on s different computer running Windows 8.1 and it seems to be fine.
I think that the real problem is that the Activation module fails. So, if you have the trial installed and try to activate it (as I did) it will fail. If you install from scratch and already have your serial number you're good.

I'm glad you posted or I would have given up based on the bad advice I got from Corel.

Oddly it reports insufficient memory when I try, for example to add a frame. I don't have the text from the chat I had with the Corel agent but I do remember him saying something about being unable to address memory in recent versions of Windows.

Not a big problem; I mainly got the thing for nostalgia sake. And I've never seen a program that had a better way to add clouds to a landscape picture.
