SVCD won't play in Windows Media Player 10?

Post by Peta »

Two of my customers have Media Player Version 10 - they cannot play a SVCD disc (on a CD-R) I recently created for them using VS8 - I use MediaPlayer 9 and am resisting all Microsofts efforts to get me to upgrade to 10. I can play the same SVCD's with no problem on my mediaplayer 9.

What is the connection between the two players and VS8 ? Mediaplayer10 says codecs are missing when they try to play the SVCD's Does this mean I have to upgrade to 10? Is VS8 WMP 10 friendly?? Or do I have to upgrade to VS9?? Help !!! Please.

Your clients don't have the codecs installed to play svcd's.

The codecs are on your machine because you have VS8 and possibly
other dvd player software installed.

Your version/installation of MediaPlayer 9/10 is using the VS8 codecs or other
dvd playing software installed on your machine.

Your clients need to install "WinDvd, PowerDvd or Ulead Dvd player"
so that Windows Media Player can use the codecs.

Hope this helps,

MD

SVCD is mpeg2, so that's what's missing on your client's PC's (an mpeg2 decoder).

As mentioned, installing a DVD Playing software would give them the ability to play your disc.
