I don't believe the delay is with the video card at all.

You can run VS on an ATI pci video card with 32megs. No Problem.

I would dump the ram extender program.
Take a look at the file sizes of the scanned images.
Are they very large?

Is DMA 5 enable on the harddisk?

Thanks every one for your ideas & suggestions

I have started my project again and have discovered that when I use smartsoud music clips it slows down the prevewing of the project. I went back to my old project removed the Smartsound clips and it started within 6 seconds.

has any one else had that problem ?

I have always had problems with Smartsound slowing down my project. I've questioned it a couple of times on this forum but have never found a solution.

What I do is decide on what Smartsound track I want to use, then remove it from my project until I'm completely done with my editing. When I'm ready to render I put the Smartsound track back in and create my rendered file. That way the Smartsound track doesn't slow me down when I'm previewing my edits.

I emailed Smartsound and this is their reply

I have run some tests and have only been able to come up with a slight delay. With that said, I am working with about 5 minutes of video on a fairly fast machine. What I suspect is happening is that you have much more than that on the timeline. Part of the SmartSound dynamic music resizing feature is that the file is created at the time you play the timeline preview. It is not until you render your project that the sound file is actually disconnected from the dynamic feature. This allows you to resize the file at any time during your editing process. The trade-off, it appears, is that it slows Ulead. Some of the other partners we have resolved this by creating a temporary sound file. I am not able to find out if Ulead is doing that or not.
