Hi
I have VS X4 installed on my Windows 7 machine. The program worked perfectly fine, I've done lots of videos and slide shows.
I did not use it for some weeks now, and when I opened it and wanted to check the version number (via Help) it gives an error message and says it cannot connect to the Internet and then the program completely blocks and I have to close it via the Windows Task Manager. I wanted to check the version number to see if I have installed all of the patches (I am not sure if I installed all of the 3 service packs).
Does anybody have an idea why I cannot check any more the version number of the program?
Thanks for help.
Regards, Hanspeter

Re: Corel Video Studio X4 does not show software version
Hi hanspeter
Just tried that and get similar problems, however I am able to choose keyboard Alt + F4 to close the active window and return to the program.
Don’t know why this is happening but must be the server not your pc.
I will try to report this problem.
As for the patches, if you try to run the installer for the service packs and receive an error (the installed version could not be determined) then the patch will almost certainly be installed,

Yes - I just tried X4 as well and get the same - "not connected to the internet" message. Yet in VS X5 and X6 I have no problems at all - it rather looks as though the problem is on the Corel Servers.
EDIT
tried again a number of times - closing VS X4 and re-opening occasionally it works - often it does not
My version is showing 14.3.0.5

thanks for responses. Good to hear at least that you all have the same problems.
In fact I tried this evening again, the same happens: VS X4 opens perfectly and when I click the Help and Product Information "wheels", then it opens but gets stuck and finally says that there is no connection. As you wrote above I also can close this window with Alt/F4 and it goes back to normal Corel Editor window.
So really seems to be a Corel problem

Re: Corel Video Studio X4 does not show software version
Hi Brian
The Corel Guide does open and look ok, but clicking anything to navigate causes the error screen to show. Then I choose Alt+F4 to close.
Just tried again and my internet connection crashed, maybe coincidence.
I’m sure Corel will fix in time?

Yes Trevor - but as I said - while I am unable to open the 'about' panel most of the time, getting the not connected message OCCASIONALLY - it surprises me and opens showing my version number - not all the time - not always - but occasionally.

Re: Corel Video Studio X4 does not show software version
Hi there
just wanted to let you know: the problem is still the same with VS X4, the screen opens, but after while it says "no internet connection", even if my internet connections are perfectly ok. With ALT/F4 I get back to the programme.
I also tried with my old version X2 and that works perfectly (but I am not sure if the programme is built in similar way as X4 where it clearly connects to some Corel server for the training videos and the other stuff, in X2 it is - probably - all local).
I really hope that this can get solved. I do not want to upgrade at this point of time, the current version is perfectly ok for my needs. But it would be really nice to get all those features available via this Help/etc screen.

X4 pro fails to be recognised
I just wonder HOW one can tell whether the Service Packs that fail to be installed (because the Corel software cannot determine the existence of itself) actually DO install. Clearly, to get such information is impossible via the help process, which doesn't work for me either.
I have attempted sveral times to install SP1 to SP3 and have no idea if I have been successful. Is there anything within the software (the pro- suite) that shows up as different after the Packs have installed?

Re: Corel Video Studio X4 does not show software version
Hi Peter
After installing the Service Packs, generally the version number of the program is updated.
You can view the version number from the Corel Guide, orange disc top right for Help and Information.
However there has been some problems in accessing the X4 guides, today I am still having some problems, but a little patience seems to help. If you can access that guide you will find the serial number within the Cogwheel About Video Studio info.
I see 14.3.0.5
Even so if you try to install a Service Pack and receive the error “Version cannot be determined”
We know that this indicates that the Service Packs have already been installed,
Just the wrong wording on Corels part
