Downloaded the trial and got a blank panel when I run it...

Hiya,

I'm looking to replace Photoshop, and I thought I'd give PSP a go, so I downloaded the trial and installed it under win 7 64. When I came to run it however, after the email registration panel, I get this:

and it doesn't run.

I tried contacting support, but without purchasing it I apparently don't get any. Can anyone help me? I am a bit unimpressed there's not even an email address for me to contact for help when they're trying to get new customers, so I'm hoping some kind soul here will be able to point me in the right direction.

If you have access to another computer, take the download there and install there and see if you get the same result. If so then you may have gotten a corrupted download.
If it works on the other computer, then something on your computer may be interfering with its operation either in installation , or on operation / boot up.

I have not experienced anything like this. The only suggestion I have is to try holding the shift key as you start PSP. This resets the program to default values but if you have not had it start at all it may not work.

Hi

There have been issues with the Corel Guides and other pop-up windows, don’t know if anyone has found a definite solution.
But some things I would try…

1 / As the window seems to be an internet link it may be using Flash Player.
Can you update Flash to the latest version.

2 / There have been issues with Internet Browser Managers, Browser Toolbar plug-in.
For more info do a search of the Knowledge Base for Browser Manager and Babylon

3 / Corel saves messages to a folder here :- C:\ProgramData\Corel\Messages
Deleting the messages may reset the window, this may effect other Corel programs.

4 / Re install the program.

Thanks for all the replies. Still no luck on this pc, but I got it working on my home PC. I tried installing flash, no luck, looked for the messages dir, no luck, haven't installed the browser plugin, on either machine. I'm at a loss as to why it doesn't work here.

Browser plugins like Browser Manager are installed by mistake, check your Program Features just in case they are installed.

As it seems to be an internet issue the thought of Pop-Up blocker came to mind?????

Have you tried starting PSP with the internet disconnected.

Now I am clutching at straws, you are not on your own when you say “I’m at a loss as to why it doesn't work here”

That eliminates some of the possibilities that your download may have been corrupt.
I have downloaded and installed on an XP Home computer and a Windows 7 64 bit laptop with no problems.
It would appear that the installation package is unduly sensitive to something on your other computer. I have Zone Alarm as my firewall and AVG as my virus protection and also running spybot search and destroy. My flash is up to date (good check here is to go to youtube.com and see if you can play a video there as I occasionally get requests to update my flash when trying to play a video)
I suspect that some other virus programs and firewalls may also have an effect on the installation.

Have you checked that you have the latest version of Windows Framework installed?
That has caused me grief in the past.

A recent post on the Video Studio forum indicates a problem with a QuickTime update.
Re installing to an earlier version has cured the problem at least for this poster

Video Studio X6 the latest VS version now installs QuickTime not sure which version but will try to find as using that version may be best?

Yes it may have....if the Corel Guide does require QT to function correctly then its worth taking the time to check the QuickTime versions installed on your PC,
irrespective of what program you are running.

I would also think that Flash may be used as many of the embedded video may need flash, mentioned earlier.
Other users have cured this problem with ensuring Windows Updates are upto date.

We know the problem of a white screen does exist, unfortunately we have not found the culprit.

Hiya,

My browser is Firefox by default for both my home laptop and my work pc, and it installed and worked fine on my laptop, so I assume there must be some other difference causing the problem.
Anyway, I had a play, and decided to stick with Serif Photoplus, as PSP was lacking in layer types in comparison. Thanks to everyone for their help though.
