BurnNow

I have an image file from Corel BurnNow (lenovo). I can't really tell if it's on the DVD (DVD-RW 4.7GB), and I don't seem to have the files on my hard drive anymore. How do I restore this to previous native file formats? The whole 4.7 of individual files, whether back on my hard disk or a USB stick?

Hi Adam

and welcome to the forums

You say you have an image file, are you referring to an ISO file created as a disc Image for a DVD disc.
If yes
You can play the Iso file using VLC Media Player, this will play as though playing a DVD disc.

The ISO is a zipped TS-Folder, that’s the folder burned to a DVD disc.
Unzipping using Win Zip will extract the TS-Video folder.
The folder contains several files. the Vob types are the video.

You should be able to re-name the Vob to use Mpg as the files extension.
Now you should be able insert to a video editor.

If you have the disc, then copy the contents to your hard drive, then access the TS folder to rename the Vob files. Vob files have a max size of 1 Gb, so a full disc (4.7Gb) will contain 4 Vob at 1 Gb and one at 700Mb ish

Do you own a version of Video Studio?

Ok, obviously I have not been specific enough, apologies. This is a data disk, and I think the only file extension is *.ubn, for a "ulead Burn.now project" file type. Do I need to burn this from image file to dis in order to get an iso file and THEN I can get back to native file types somehow?

To use the project file you'll need the original files.
Even if you had an ISO or TS folder you couldn't get your native files back.
If you don't have them, I am afraid you are stuck.

Think of baking a cake.

The project is the recipe, tells you what to do with your ingredients, native original files.
Once baked you have the cake, or ISO file.
You cannot unbake your cake, or your ISO file, just watch it or eat it!!

Thanks very much for your response, I know I'm a neophyte and this could be tedious. Just one last thing-
In the Corel Burn.Now interface, a window pops up and says Drag and Drop the files you want to burn here...or some such thing, so I did.
So from what your are saying, they Moved and did not Copy, however, I can't get them back. Nor, however, can I access them. Can I "play" a pdf and doc and ppt once they are a TSO file? How then does a DATA DVD actually work? I thought I was storing data and could retrieve it, that is, the individual files. If I can "play" the TSO and see the content of each file, I could live with that I guess.

Hi Adam

Sorry for any confusion, I had thought you were working with video, and did not realise you were simply saving data files.

When you drag and drop files to Burn Now the clips are linked to the files on the hard drive, in a way copied, so the files on the hard drive remain intact and should remain in the original location.
You can save the burning process as a project file, the original files need to remain in the same location to use the project file.

Once you have burned the data to disc you should be able to access the files from any PC. If Burn Now is installed then they may be accessed via the burn now software.

The Data Disc works just like saving files to your hard drive, except they are burned to Disc.
If you use a DVD RW type disc then the disc can be cleared/formatted to be used again.
You should be able to retrieve all files burned to disc, saving then back to your hard drive.

By the way Windows Explorer will save data to discs, search the help and support for “Burn a CD or DVD in Windows Explorer”

If you did burn them as data to the disc, you should be able to access them the same as if they are on the hard drive. The project file will need to be told where the original files are now to be able to burn the project to disc again.

If you use explorer to view the dvd, what does it tell you is on it?

I am having a issue with Burn.Now as well. I burned a CD using Burn.Now with Data Files on it, I am able to read it on most computers but my Win7 computer is reading it as though it is blank. Am I doing something wrong? I have to make 15 copies of these data files to send to a client and I need to make sure they will be able to view the data/files on these CDs. Please help!

If you can read it on most computers why not use one of them to copy the files to a flash drive or SD card - then put that in your Win 7 computer and burn the CD's you want.
