X6 Print Layout Problem

Post by Gene K »

In both 32 and 64 bit version, I do not get a "transparency" in Print Layout showing the paper outline under the image. Also, the paper outline doesn't show margins.

Anyone else have this problem and/or a solution?

Thanks.

Well ... would someone please confirm that their Print Layout works "normally" - that is, when a graphic is dragged onto the paper outline, the outline remains visible to allow positioning the graphic.

Thanks,

I don't see any kind of an outline on my "paper" in Print Layout. There's a white area where the images are placed but no print margins are displayed. I can drag my images around on the white area with no trouble though. I never print from PSP so I have no idea if this is how it's supposed to look. In PSP8 there is a gray border around the white area indicating the print margins but not in X6. In X6 I don't see any indication of what the paper size is that's being displayed other than in the printer setup dialog where I can see that it's set to 8.5x11" paper. I don't see any way to determine the size of the actual printable area that's being displayed.

As far as margins are concerned, in X6, I get exactly the same as LindaSue. In X5, on the other hand, there is a small grey border around the interior of the white area. When I enable to grid pattern in X6 Print Layout, I note that there is now a small white border around the grid pattern which is the same size as the grey border in X5.
I do not get a "transparency" in Print Layout showing the paper outline under the image.
Neither do I in X6... If I choose not to scale the image to fit the paper outline, the image fills the screen with no outline showing through. In X5, the paper outline -- including an inner line indicating the border, clearly shows.

Note that the situation is the same in both X6 64 bit and 32 bit.

But I cannot explain why Corel changed the situation from X5.

Thanks for those replies - it's the program's "fault", not mine .... Without the "transparent outline" feature (as in all previous versions), Print Layout is essentially worthless for me since, as Ken, I can't determine in an overscale image what the actual print will be. Hopefully this is a bug, not an intentional program revision.

Since I am new to this board ... does Corel monitor this Board, and how does Corel collect suggestions?

Thanks again for the confirmations!

As you may be aware, this is a user to user board, staffed by users who volunteer their time to help out others. None of us is a paid Corel employee. Moreover, Corel execs rarely visit -- though there is one from the UK who occasionally offers suggestions on very specific PSP questions, but notes that she is doing so on a personal basis.

That being said, the best place to offer suggestions or report bugs is in the two sticky posts at the top of this forum, one labelled Wish List and the other Bugs and Suggestions. We understand that Corel occasionally looks at those, though this is by no means guaranteed. Trying to contact Corel direct is at best difficult. However, recent experience suggests that they respond quickly to complaints aired on their Corel Twitter and Facebook accounts... Hint hint!

Since I don't do Twitter or Facebook ... has anyone run across any postings on my problem of not being able to use Print Layout?

I used the print layout once in psp x4 to print two 5x7s. It left a white line about 1/16th of an inch through both pictures. I tried it again with a different picture and it did the same thing. Haven’t used it since. Don’t know if x6 is any better. I use two other methods instead with no problems. First, to print from psp I made separate pspimage file letter size with guide lines. Now I just use the crop tool, crop what I want to 5x7 and then copy paste to my page. It also allows me to set up my page with multiple images and various sizes. I have to merge image first. The second method I use is to do my prints with pse. It has a great layout package and allows you to print more than one image. Only problem is that I have save my files to either a psd or jpg file first. These may be other options for you.

I remember someone else writing about this problem some time ago. I have the same result as you do - it is a bug. There seems to be a number of changes that are introduced with new versions that destroy desirable features - for no good reason. This may not matter to some people, especially if one's printer does not print to the edge of the paper but I can understand that it is important for you.

If you just click & drag the image on the layout page, you can't see the edge frame, but if you click and hold that click for about a second, a'frame' outline appears and STAYS,which can be dragged to resize & locate the image precisely.

True enough for resizing your image. But take the situation where you have a 4x6 template and you want a portion of the image on the template, some of it falling off (in a sense a crop). In earlier versions the underlying template edges would show as you move and resize the image. In X6 the template is hidden. Gene K wants to see the outline of the template as was the case in earlier versions. I agree that it was a mistake to make this change. The alternative of course is to crop to 4x6 in Edit and make sure the whole picture (sized to printer capabilities) is on the template.
