Gifs adding as photos only

Post by lostboy »

I have VSX4 and I often edit videos using gifs, however they no longer animate when I add them to the library and timeline. It's been a while since I last used it but I can't figure out why my VS is now showing them only as photos of the first frame in the gif. Gifs used to work fine by simply dragging them in.

I'm not very technical so I'm hoping there is a simple solution which has evaded my attention. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

I just fired up VS X4 and put in one of my animated gif's and it seems to work very well.

I am not sure what you are expecting - you cannot edit the animated gif in VideoStudio but you should be able to "Play" the gif and see the animation in the preview window - can you put your gif in the timeline and play it - what happens ?

if it is not playing then maybe it is something to do with that particular gif - have you got an older one which used to work which you could try.

Cheers for the reply.

They just don't play as gifs, either in the library preview or the timeline. They are just like a one frame still of the first frame of the gif. Like you suggested, I just tried it with older gifs that definitely used to work but the same things happens.

On the List View it lists their type as 'photo' even though they are definitely gifs. I've used VSX4 many times in this same way and it's now that's it's stopped playing the gifs as gifs.

I have no idea what's happened to it. The first time I noticed it, it was when I dragged in loads and loads of gifs in one go, and they all loaded up but as photos, not gifs. Since then it has been the same no matter how many or which gif it is I put in.

I thought maybe I overloaded it somehow but I just don't know.

OK lets investigate a little further - download the zip file have added below - unzip it and you should have a ,gif which works in my X4 lets see if it works in yours.

It is a very basic and very simple gif from a year ago - so you try it and report back

Tried it, hasn't worked. Just a 3-second long still image of the words Winter Fair in red.

I played the gif in Media player and saw the yellow stars and message at the end, but it doesn't play in my VSX4.

Make sure you have Quicktime installed. In the past, Ulead software required Quicktime to be installed to have animated gif support, might be the case for Corel as well.

Yep, that was the problem. I don't even remember uninstalling Quicktime, but I just re-installed it and the gifs are all working now. Cheers rwernyei for that, and also Brian for taking the time to help me out. Really appreciated.
