PSP X6 Trial Installation Problem

Post by redbaron »

Problem: For every attempts I have made to install the trial, I have been unable to assign a folder like "My Pictures". Everytime I try to assign a folder, the application shuts down and from then on I am unable to restart the application.
Note that I can open a single image on a first install.
I don<t suppose there is much support for a Trial version, but in as much as I am interested in the product, I will not buy something that is not working as it should.
So as a last resort, maybe someone can help me?
So far, I have re-installed the trial 6 times with no success (included reboot after removing the product and disabling Antivirus software also)
OS is Win7Ult x64 with latest updates.

I have the same OS and don't remember ever having the problem you describe.

I'm not sure what you mean by "assign a folder". I suggest that when you open PSP you start in Manage mode and in the Navigation window select Computer and work your way down through the tree to computer/local disk (c:)/users/your name/my pictures . . to the directory containing the photos. Once your photos display as thumbs or preview (you can switch between the views with the icon on the upper right) you can select the photo to edit by double clicking or right click. If this is what you have been doing then the only alternative I can suggest is that you start the program in default mode. Hold the shift key as you start PSP and it reverts to default parameters. Good luck.

Pretty vague, isn't it. Does the 32 bit version work? Have you tried closing all other applications in case something is interfering? I have no other idea but perhaps someone else has had a similar problem they have solved.

Hi Pierre,
Is this occuring in Edit mode or Manage or adjust mode.
I have installed X6 32 bit version on an XP Home computer and X6 32 and 64 bit versions on a Windows 7 laptop with no troubles , but then I only use Edit mode. PSP was an Edit mode program only from X3 back. Some people have found that the new Manage / Adjust modes introduced in X4 have and cause problems with their systems.

When I am working with images I place copies of the images in a work folder on my desktop and open that folder and minimise it.
Then I open X6 in Edit mode only and then restore the Work folder and drag images across into the workspace. So far this has never caused me problems.

In Manage mode the program looks in a folder and starts making thumbnails of a lot of files there automatically. I have heard it mentioned on some other threads that some files have given the program some problems. Some have been traced to improper Exif data / resolutions , there are probably other file types that may give the Manage mode some problems.

Problem: For every attempts I have made to install the trial, I have been unable to assign a folder like "My Pictures". Everytime I try to assign a folder, the application shuts down and from then on I am unable to restart the application.
Note that I can open a single image on a first install.
Can you step by step detail what you are doing here. Start with :
1. Program installed correctly
2. Start program by double clicking the X6 32 Icon on the desktop.

Go through the steps til you get your hang.
It is only if we can duplicate what you are trying to do and get the same problem that others might be able to then help. Otherwise we are just guessing.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867
