X6 release woes

Post by edwinn »

Over the weekend I installed X6 TBYB on a Win7 32bit system w/integrated Intel graphics and it was stable initially. Soon there were video corruption issues with PINK or violet boarders on TWO sides of a frame.. possibly drop shadows? Later in one of the TAB'd mode (or was it window mode) a blue title bar would appear for each graphic, badly displayed over the main GUI title bar.

Also there were weird 'drop shadows' around images in EDIT mode with strange "buffer zones" to the right and bottom. Very strange!! Another beef.. there was no medium Gray workspace to choose!! so light Gray was selected. Not a show stopper.

However.. the next day, X6 would repeatedly CRASH 10 seconds after starting up while displaying thumbnails in VIEW mode. Very Disappointing. It had to be uninstalled. I could not run X5 because of video issues.. and worse, System Corruption! At least X4 is running well. Not sure now commercial software could have so many issues.

Some months ago I was asking about VIDEO driver configuration to maximize PSP operation. Anyone?

Should I wait for SP1 to come out?

Sorry to reply to OP.. Next step (before giving up) is INSTALL X6 on my Win Xp Pro Xeon workstation with nVidia GeForce GTS 250 card.

Still amazed to see a release with so many issues, or lack of beta testing?

Below are some screen caps

This one during install has video corruption, an irregular PINK half-boarder? How did it look on your PC?

I uninstalled X6 and waited a day or two, then reinstalled. Sure enough, after starting it a second time (after initial start)it repeatedly CRASHES in about 10 seconds.

Both X5 and X6 were corrupted and unusable. X5 was worse, causing Windows OS instability, so I stick with X4.

Ho hum.. what low confidence level.

I've never seen this with X6. You're the first to report such major problems that I'm aware of. Others had have crashing but not the same as what you describe. It was beta tested.

Your computer needs special attention from Corel to see what's going on.

How do you propose to get "special attention" from Corel? and how much of my time will be needed?

Also this PC which X6 was crashing on is NOT the one described in the the RIGHT margin and in my profile. That system is the main Workstation running Xp Pro. THIS PC, which is my portable Dell XE (small form factor) machine still being used because of "heat dissipation" by the WKSTN in summer months. Haven't switched back yet.

The PC specs are for this topic are:

Dell OptiPlex XE, Intel Core2 Duo E7400 @2.8 GHz, 4096 MB RAM
Intel 4 Series Integrated video chipset w/~1.45 MB video RAM, Samsung 2243BWX screen @1680x1050
Windows 7 Pro 32-bit

So there's still the possibility of INSTALLING X6 on the Prec 670 Wkstn.. but if you recall, X5 caused serious OS instability on that box, so I'm less than optimistic.

EDIT: Let's see if I can make this less snarky.

A support ticket is your only real best option. It's not guaranteed, but it has the potential to do more for you than waiting around for SP1 to fix a problem Corel may or may not know about. You could just give up on any new PSP altogether, that costs less, but that's up to you whether you think it worth it or not.

I have not had this problem with PSP. I have PSP X4, X5, X6 32,64-bit installed. I had this problem with other software apps when I had several versions of the app installed. I uninstalled all versions of the application and cleaned the Registry. Then I installed the oldest to newest version of the software app. You should make sure that you are using the most recent video driver for your video card. When I have had video problems I download the most recent update from nVidia website. The video drivers downloaded with windows update may not be the most recent.
