I've been occasionally irritated by the X5 help panel (the text file and the video tutorials) being displayed under X6, but basically lived with it.
In the last few days, I've been reviewing the track motion features of X6 for the class I mentor. At home, the help panel is the correct X6 item, and the tutorials were really interesting and I planned to show them off for a project that's underway.
In class on the laptop, the help panel displayed under the X6 program was for X5. Embarrassing when the subject one wants to show is not available.
Does anyone know why this happens?

Re: Wrong help file in X6
I seem to remember a number of users having problems with various components of VideoStudio going to the wrong places - I think that Trevor (lata) had some problems which I think he solved by changing his graphics card - I do not know that that is your problem.
What I do know though is that in order to access the help file VS needs to go online - so first question - is the laptop connected to the internet in the class - or is it displaying a cached version from somewhere.
When I choose help in X5 internet explorer opens displaying the path :-
http://product.corel.com/help/Video/540 ... wwhelp.htm
when I choose help in X6 internet explorer displays the path :-
http://product.corel.com/help/video/540 ... lcome.html
So all I can suggest at the moment is that you try using the link I have given for X6 and see if you can access the X6 help.
doesn't cure the problem I know and doesn't explain why it is happening but it may just allow your class to keep working until some one can give you the proper solution

Re: Wrong help file in X6
Hi Brian,
Thanks. Several questions there, taken in turn:
1. The laptop in class - is internet connected, and registered. Has to be to even open the corel guide where the tutorial videos appear.
2. When it does open, the Corel guide does not appear to use a browser - just opens the guide in the help window, with a listing of the available tutorials in the RH pane. The help page addresses it might use are not displayed.
Some images (hopefully I've gotten the pixel sizes right this time):
first - X6 opened, on the desk and displaying the right X6 help view panel and tutorial list second - X6 opened on the laptop and displaying the X5 help view panel and tutorial list I realise it's a tad difficult to confirm the correct version of VS from the title bar because Corel doesn't include the version there (eg X6), just the model (eg Pro). And the help guide windows obscure the unique item on the UI which is different between versions - the motion tracking icon, which wasn't in X5.
I've been using the same registration for each version as I install it - the registration window asks if I have an existing account and the answer is yes with the same address etc. Started with Pro 11.5, then X5 and now X6, and the laptop has X5 and X6 installed on it for class purposes - and I've wondered whether that has a bearing on this funny behaviour?

Re: Wrong help file in X6
the confusion has occurred due to your mention of the help files - When you said that I assumed you meant the HELP file which is accessed when you press F1 with VS open - or click on that question mark bottom centre of the COREL GUIDE. The HELP files open in a browser and look like the image below.
What you meant apparently was the LEARN files and tutorials from the Corel guide.
All of those Videos are hosted on Youtube - so if you copy the video reference number when playing from your home computer you can just put it in the search bar on Youtube and watch it in class - the motion one for instance is - zxCKlG5EELc - put that in the search bar on Youtube

Re: Wrong help file in X6
Yep, I've seen both the text user files and the tutorials on Youtube, or more explicitly, displayed via the browser in a browser window. But I think you are missing my point a bit, too.
When the VS UI is displayed, there is a "help and product information" icon in the title bar, top RH side. I trapped this screenshot showing it with the explanation bubble: Pressing this icon gets you the guide window displayed in the middle of the UI, as shown in the pics previously posted. Including the indexed text files (see the big query icon at the foot of the guide window) and the list of tutorials in the RH pane. Selecting one of those tutorial items (links) will play the tutorial in the view panel of that guide window. My point with this discussion is that the help files and tutorials presented should be for X6 when X6 is loaded, not X5. And some time's it is and some time's not: correct and consistent would be a good thing. I don't know why, and that is the question.

Re: Wrong help file in X6
Hi
A little history
With the release of X6 the Corel Guide showed as X5, this was a problem with the server.
You were able to download Do-More templates before registering the program, some downloads are used by all versions, however some are dedicated to a particular version, these continued to cause problems.
Eventually Corel fixed all issues, I think.
I still believe the initial access to X6 is wrong and uses X5, but only for the first access and registration, then the Corel Guide seems to correct itself so has no effect and certainly not noticed by the user, hard to test as you need a new install to do so.
The details of all downloads are saved to the Corel/Messages folder.
If these contain X5 details then yes you may see the X5 guide.
Some downloads will not work with X6 as the file is dedicated to X5 (menu templates)
Most files work ok as they are used by all versions
The fix---
you could try deleting the Messages Folder, the folder is used by all Corel programs, I don’t know what affect it will have on other programs. I can only say that I have deleted/removed this folder without problems. However the link may be set in the registry so Probably easier to re-install the program, uninstall and remove user personal details.
After installation do not download any samples till you are sure you are seeing the X6 Guide
David I am on holiday at the moment so cannot give further details but hope the above helps.

Re: Wrong help file in X6
Thanks Trevor,
A re-install does seem to have fixed it, but not without land mines and strikes of terror in the process.
1. the uninstall and file/registry cleanup went OK.
2. a warm re-start and then install X6 from a saved downloadable file. Failed shortly into the process with this message Two repeats got the same result. However after a further cleanup and a cold boot, a 4th install attempt worked OK. I have no idea why (but suspect the RAM wipeout that goes with a cold boot), but get out of jail I did.
3. after the install, startup got to the initial guide and register screen - did that, and then tried the help icon: same old X5 stuff (per prior screen shots). Given your synching remarks, a second attempt yielded blank white view panel with the learn tab, and a 3rd one finally got to the X6 data. A program shutdown, re-start and 4th try repeated the X6 connection.
4. loaded Sp1 and repeat - X6 data still displayed.
What a tortuous process. Surely there has to be a better way . . . . .
