VS X5 Pro,'Unspecified Error' in rendering DVDs
I'm in a real pickle: Bought a top shelf Sony V. Cam. In HD the format is AVCHD, which X5 Pro doesn't want to know. The Sony software,'Play Memory Home' only allows basic editing like trimming of clips. So I tried 'Batch Convert' and picked MPEG as target to edit my 1 hr 4 mins of Kruger Park wildlife, which entails hours of work. When I start on the disc burning procedure (or video file production) after several mins I get the 'The program encountered an unspecified error and will be closing down', I have tried different output choices, like 'DVD" or 'AVCHD' at different compression, tried deselecting hard- and software acceleration etc, to no avail, same error every time, I get told to send the Dump file to Corel for analysis, fat lot that would do! If I started with a conversion to a different file system I would probably have to go through the editing again, sound, transitions and all? I am totally snookered at the moment, can anybody help? Please don't be too technical, my computer knowledge is only average.

Hi,
i was quite surprised to read your comment about VS X5 not wanting to know AVCHD files - my X5 handles and edits them with no problem, what file extension are they using - are you able to even put one of the original AVCHD files in the timeline of VS - then right click and choose 'properties' and put the result up here - have you enabled 'Smart Proxy' that makes editing AVCHD a lot easier.
OK lets assume you have to go down the conversion route - can you do the same with one of the mpeg files - put it in the timeline - right click - choose properties and post the result on here.
We have found many times that when people are having problems burning a DVD it is best to break the process into chunks - that way we either get success - or we find out where the problem is.
assuming - since you mention mpeg - that you wish to burn a standard DVd to play on almost any DVD player :--
When you have finished all editing go to "Share >> Create Video File >> DVD >> DVD Video (16:9)" -- follow all the steps through to create a new mpeg file - give it a name which you can identify as being the new one. play this file in VS or windows media player etc. to ensure it is a good final video.
Now go back to the VS editing stage and this time go "Share >> Create Disc" - when the disc burning module opens if there is anything at all in it's time line DELETE IT - you do not want that project file - now using the icons in the top left corner import the new mpeg file you have just made - continue to set up menus etc and go to the burn page.
On the burn page UNTICK "create to Disc" and click to tick "Create disc Image" - if you cannot see that then click on the double downward pointing arrows at the right hand edge of the burn window,
fill in the details about where you want to save it and click 'Burn' and VS will create an image file.
It is best now to play that .iso file - if you do not have anything to do that then download and install the free VLC player from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html - this will play an .iso file EXACTLY as if you were playing a DVD.
If that works well then there is no reason why you should not be able to burn a successful DVD by going back to VS and choosing "Tools >> Burn from disc Image(ISO)" - browse to your new iso - put a blank disc in your burner - burn a DVD.
OK - see how you get on with that.

I'm not sure how to reply to post, I hope this is the right way. Thanks for your prompt reply! I was wrong, of course, AVCHD files work fine, the huge file sizes are a problem of course. The file ext. on those files is .m2ts, file type: T(AVC) Format.
The mpeg files I have used now for my edit are: MPEG-2 VIDEO 720x576.
Unfortunately I didn't get through the next step. 'Unspecified error" and program shutdown, as before, at around 19% of rendering the renamed file!
Cheers, Peter

the quickest and easiest way to reply is to click on the "Post Reply" button just under the bottom left corner of my post.
I am still not sure exactly when you get the error message
Can you edit mpeg files in VideoStudio ??
having edited can you create a video file - - "Share >> Create Video File >> DVD >> DVD Video (16:9)"

Re: VS X5 Pro,'Unspecified Error' in rendering DVDs
Hello again,
The original 1hr AVCHD file was batch-converted to MPEG-2 and successfully edited in that.
Every time I attempt to produce either a disc OR a videofile OR (as you suggested) a renamed video file, the error occurs at some time during the early part off the rendering process. For all it's worth here is the error file:
C:\Users\Home\AppData\local\Temp\vstudio_15.2.0.10_201 30914_205507.16_145302.DMP
At least the last 15 digits seem to vary on each occurrence, and I must have tried about ten times.
Cheers, Peter

Re: VS X5 Pro,'Unspecified Error' in rendering DVDs
Yes the last digits will change as VS gives the dmp file a new reference number - but it means nothing at all to any one on these forums - only to Corel technicians - I have opened dmp files but am unable to make any sense of what they contain. Incidentally you have not posted the actual file - just a link to where it is on your computer - so if you do get help from Corel you will need to find the actual file at that address on your PC.
Some users are having success getting technical support from Corel VideoStudio via their facebook page :-
https://www.facebook.com/corelvideostudio
It would appear though that you have a rogue video in there somewhere which is causing the error - the only way I know to find that is to keep removing one video at a time and seeing if the file will then render - bit of a slow tedious task but you do need to identify the piece of video causing the problem.
