PaintShop Pro X5 / X6 with "Nik Collection"

Post by Khuri »

I'm having trouble using the "Nik Collection" (http://www.niksoftware.com) Filters in PSP.
While they are originally designed for Adobe Photoshop, the ability of PaintShop Pro to use PhotoShop Plugins has been working great for me in the past.

However, the Nik Collection only works halfway with PSP. I mainly bought it because of the Dfine filter, which works flawless, but the other filters don't.
I'm finding mixed messages while searching for this issue, some say all filters work (with older versions of PSP), others mainly have the problem of correctly installing them.
Now i have them installed correctly, but some filters just don't work. Maybe i am just missing something. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Here's what i have and what happens when i use the filters. The results are always the same.
I tested it in: PSP X5 and PSP X6 (both 32 and 64-bit version) on Windows 7 64-bit.

The Nik Collection is correctly installed for all PSP versions (in the plugins folders, they appear correctly as Plugins and can all be executed from within PSP).
"Crashes PSP" means the program does not give the windows "does not respond anymore"-notice but rather just doesn't do anything at all anymore. Closing program from taskbar does not work. All you can do is terminate using taskmanager.
Nik Collection:
  • "HDR Efex Pro 2"
    • Very long loading time
    • Preview Image is very bright. Applying any preset filters results in either a white or black image. All settings sliders are set to the very left (usually -100%)
    • Applying filter works, but result is as shown Preview image (either black or white, or completly wrong colored picture), Zoom Window shows same as Preview
    • Aborting filter works
  • "Silver Efex Pro 2"
    • Loads very fast
    • Preview Image shows correctly
    • Applying presets works
    • Applying crashes PSP
    • Aborting crashes PSP
  • "Sharpener Pro 3" (both OS and RAW)
    • Loads very fast
    • Preview Image works
    • Applying works
    • Aborting works
  • "Color Efex Pro 4"
    • Very long loading time
    • Preview Image works
    • Applying Presets in Preview Image works
    • Applying crashes PSP
    • Aborting crashes PSP
  • "Viveza 2"
    • Very fast loading
    • Preview Image works, but Image has very pale/almost no colors. Zoom Window within filter shows colors correctly. Both windows adjust when using the settings sliders, but Preview Image works with the initial "pale" image
    • Applying works (applied image looks like in Zoom window, not Preview)
    • Aborting works
  • "Dfine 2"
    • Very fast loading
    • Preview Image works
    • Adjusting Settings works
    • Applying works
    • Aborting works
If anyone has suggestions as for why 2 of 6 filters simply crash PSP in all three above mentioned versions, and how to possibly fix it, is greatly appreciated.
I'm putting this up with Nik support as well, seeing that 2 filters (HDR and Vivenza) obviously have problems within the filters as well.
