Layer Groups question ?

I have created a new layer group and put two layers under that group.

The layers under that group are set to Screen 50% opacity and Multiply 100% opacity.

The layer group seems to have its own layer mode which overrides the layer modes of the layers beneath ?
Is there a workaround to this ?

In photoshop the layer group is just container to help organise the layers beneath and I don't recall it having its own layer mode.
