Not enough memory error...?
Hello all,
I am trailing X6 for use with very large ortho-mosaic images captured from a UAV. The particular image I am currently working on is approx 246MB (jpg) with dimensions of 38760 x 47427 pixels so it is rather large! X6 will open it but whenever I try and adjust the contrast I get the following error:
------- Command Execution Failed -----------
Command Name: Color Adjust Brightness Contrast
Error Text: Not enough memory to complete this action. Please close one or more documents or applications and try again. If this does not correct the problem, you can try adjusting the memory settings in Windows or you can work on a smaller version of the document.
I realise that there has always been a 30k pixel dimension limit with most packages and I was very surprised when X6 opened my very large file, hence why I am keen to test it out and if it works I will certainly upgrade. I am just not sure as to why I am getting this error? I am using reasonably powerful computer so do not believe that is the issue.
Any thoughts??

Re: Not enough memory error...?
My thought (assuming that you're using the 64-bit version of X6) is that you're exceeding PSP's maximum image size. If that's the case (sorry, I don't know the exact maximum image size/dimensions), it's not surprising that an error will be generated even though PSP can initially open the image.

Re: Not enough memory error...?
20,000x20,000 is your limit. I often exceed 400-450 meg files. (Tiffs with many layers). So it's not a memory issue rather a PSP issue.

Re: Not enough memory error...?
Just tested with the 64 bit version of X6 and the 20000 x 20000 limit still applies there as well even though there is more memory available compared with the 32 bit version. Seems a backward step considering that X2 was able to handle 22500 x23200 new document.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Re: Not enough memory error...?
Hello all,
Thanks for the prompt replies.
That is a pity that PSP still cannot handle 'large' images. I got very excited when it opened my file.
I still like PSP and will continue to use it for my smaller files. Hopefully they will increase these limits one day, especially with current technology delivering larger and larger images.
Cheers.

Re: Not enough memory error...?
Silly question. You are using the 64 bit version right?

No such thing as a silly question! Yes, I am using the 64bit version.

Re: Not enough memory error...?
Yet another silly question. Did you try the same thing in the 32 bit version?

Re: Not enough memory error...?
I've tried both 32 and 64 bit. Still limited to 20,000x20,000. It's a PSP thing.

Re: Not enough memory error...?
Yeah, I was actually referring to the original problem in this discussion with the files that open but give errors when worked on.brucet wrote:I've tried both 32 and 64 bit. Still limited to 20,000x20,000. It's a PSP thing.

Re: Not enough memory error...?
I have just tried both...
32 bit opens the image but simply crashes/freezes upon trying to adjust contrast
64 bit opens the image and looks as though it is trying to do it (adjust contrast), progress bar goes from 0% then jumps to 100% and just stays there. Nothing more happens (even after leaving it for 10 mins). It doesn't actually freeze up, I can still zoom in and out etc, it just doesn't do what it should.
I just tried to turn the image into sepia tone (64 bit) and got the 'not enough memory' error pop up again.
Looks to me that PSP simply just cannot handle images of this size.

Re: Not enough memory error...?
Simple fact is that it's my understanding that there is a 20,000x20,000 limit on PSP. Why? Who knows. But It seems a pointless exercise trying to do something beyond PSP's designed limits. Exceed that limit and it's bound to 'crash' or do something that it was never designed to do. Bit like putting a 2 ton load in a truck designed for 1 ton. Somethings bound to go wrong.
Maybe someone from Corel can explain the why and why nots?

Re: Not enough memory error...?
Same issue with "Not Enough Memory to Complete This Action. Please Close One OR More Documents Or Applicaiots And Try Again. If This Does Not Correct The Problem, You Can Try Adjusting The Memory Settings In Windows Or You Can Work On a Smaller Version Of the Document." - This comes when I attempt to copy an image to use elsewhere. I am assuming this is from windows and clipboard? I just don't know enough to know.
This PSP2019 has run fabulous for me for months until now. All of a sudden this pops up. I need to be walked through how to try changing memory settings, if anyone knows. I could not find anywhere of settings in the PSP program itself. Will someone, please, please, take the time to explain these things to me?
If I need to do something different, Please offer suggestions.
ThankYou SO Much!
