EOS 70D?
EOS 70D?
So I am now a 70D owner... and found out my favourite software still does not support it while other manufacturers add support in advance, and even free software has no trouble to open these files. Am I meant to migrate or is there any chance that an update will come in less than a month? I cannot survive any longer than that on jpeg limitations.

Re: EOS 70D?
Based on the activity from Corel, and the previous pace of the release schedule, I'd say it'd be nothing short of a miracle if you got a version of ASP with 70D inside a month. Try Darktable - it's not perfect, but I'm moving more and more of my workflow into it these days.
Re: EOS 70D?
Yes, I have tested Darktable and works nicely, and the tools are impressive, but but but... the interface of the app is honestly real bad.
In Darktable:
-most common basic tools like levels, sharpening, etc are not even in the default menus.
-If you create your own list of tools under starred, the list ends up being huge (it's not sectioned), so finding the tools one needs each time is a mess.
- All the tools have icons preassigned, but then they don't show up in the toolbar (so what's the point?)
-Each time I want to export files to different formats I spend at least 4 minutes looking for the hidden menu, and file dialogs don't follow the desktop toolkits.
- Simple things like undo/redo are not even implemented.
They really need somebody to review the GUI. Just the GUI. The rest of this software is a great piece of art. I really wonder if their authors process more than 10 photos per week given how slow the workflow is.

Re: EOS 70D?
I believe the authors use it for fairly significant workflows, so it does work in that mode. However I pretty much agree with you that the UI is somewhat tortured - I've had discussions on the IRC channel about some stuff which seems utterly self evident to me, like using single click selection in the filmstrip, and having basic things like the cursor keys work as expected. They've mostly been frustrating - the devs don't seem to put nearly enough effort into the UI of a tool for which UI is of vital importance.
There are some people who contribute heavily to documentation, in terms of "how-to" videos, which are IMHO worth watching. It's a terrifically capable program, that really needs some interface love.

Re: EOS 70D?
I am considering Lightzone for now as solution ( recently opensourced at: http://www.lightzoneproject.org/ ). It works nicely and the interface is fast and intuitive once you get used to it.
Re: EOS 70D?
Yeah... I am waiting for my 70D to arrive. Guess I will not be using ASP...
Re: EOS 70D?
Reality check: free open source applications already support Canon 70D -- check out RawTherapee and Darktable... Where does it put ASP?

Re: EOS 70D?
Try editing the EXIF to fool AFP that the 70D files were produced by supported cameras. This method worked fine with NEF files but I've never tried this with Canon's raw files.
Re: EOS 70D?
Indeed! peteln, thanks for the hint. I had noticed an EXIF loading error message, but didn't try fixing it.
After several tests, I found that configuring the camera model to 6D (the other 20Mpx camera in the EOS line) seems to work.
Other camera settings such as 30D and 40D caused strange colors and 50D,60D, 7D caused crashes. But the 6D settings seem to actually work!
For those willing to try, the following line did it for me:
exiftool -Model="Canon EOS 6D" bar.cr2

Re: EOS 70D?
Confirmed; the exiftool trick seems to work, but I would rather see support for the 70D in ASP.
I am using ASP for a few months now and really like it. Just bought the 70D so I really hope they will come with an update. Can't be that difficult..
