Text motion question

Post by Elena »

Hello!

I'm trying to add a title at the end of the movie which I'd like to appear as movie credits and I want the final 3 lines to stay on the screen (not exit).

My text starts moving and when it reaches a certain point, pauses for a few seconds and then it continues to move and then disappears. I want to change the pause point of the text but I can't figure out how to do it and also I want the paused text to stay on the screen until the end of the movie.

Hello

I am not sure exactly which title you have used - but see if this works.

With your title in the timeline make sure it is selected (yellow lines all round) - open the 'Options' panel

There are two tabs in that panel 'Edit' and 'Attribute' - by default the options panel opens with the Edit tab selected - select the 'Attribute' tab

Click to put a 'blob' in the button next to 'Animation' and check that the 'Apply' box just under it is ticked.

now look just under the preview window and you should notice that the two orange sliders under the edit line are close together in the middle with a bit of orange line between them.

Depending on how many lines of text you have you may also need to open the 'Edit' tab and click on the top 'up' arrow in the alignment box to get the text to go all the way up at the end

slide the right hand one to the very right hand end of the line - orange part of line grows

now slide the right hand one along to the left - this one determines when the text stops so you might need a bit of experimentation to get it exactly where you want it . that is move it - play title - move it - play title etc. the orange section indicates the static time.

Click any where else in the timeline to get back to normal editing.

Thanks for your reply.
This fixes the text exiting problem, but I still haven't figure out how to pause to a certain point. I've moved the slider around but this only increases the pause time. It automatically stops at the last 5 lines of my text. I want it to stop at the last 3 lines. I tried adding extra empty lines at the end of the text but it didn't help.
I don't know if I' m doing something wrong, I followed the procedure you describe but the line between the two orange sliders is blue, not orange.

I'm using one of the default titles, it doesn't have a name, it's the fifth one in the default titles menu.

it's me that's confused - it was orange in earlier versions and is now blue.

can't think at the moment how to separate the lines of text and only leave 3 showing

Here is one way to do it:

1) Put your title in a the top video track.

2) Move the scrubber to the point where you want your title to freeze, with just the three lines left on the screen at top.

3) Click on the word "Project" in the preview Window.

4) Click on "Edit" on the top menu.

5) On the menu under Edit, click on "Take a Snapshot." The snapshot will appear in the library.

6) Drag the snapshot from the library to the video Overlay track, the one under the top track. Line it up on the left side with the scrubber line. Right click in the preview window and choose "Fit to Screen."

7) Drag the right side of the snapshot to the length you want.

In addition, you can fade the snapshot to black by dragging a Crossfade from the transition library to the snapshot. Put it inside the snapshot, at its right end.

You can change the duration of the fade-out by:
1) Drag the left side of the transition.
Or
2) Double-click on the transition. This will open up its options panel, where you can set its duration precisely.

Similarly, you can double-click the snapshot itself to open its options panel. Then click on the Edit tab, where you can set the length precisely, instead of dragging the right end of the clip (the way I mentioned previously).

Just a general note, if you have the snapshot already selected, with the yellow border around the whole snapshot including the transition, you need to double-click, not single-click, the transition to get it selected.
