1 big avi files or more smaller clip

Until now, i make my video edititng more small videoclip.

So i have a great number of clip in my library (abot 150 for each event), and i create my video merge/edit/trim this clip video.

VS9 and other video edititng program, can use a big avi file and give to editor single scene from this big avi file.

QUESTION

Which is the different in use VS9 in this 2 way?
Is better have 1 big avi file or a clip file for every scene?
Probably more video avi file are generaly more performance?

Separate clips are probably easier to manage. They take less time to load, are easier to view as thumbnails, and allow easy rearranging in the timeline. They take more disk space because of wasted space through a partially used last cluster. My preference would be what you are already doing.
