Joëlle, that's not really the same thing that Mark was talking about. He's putting the toolbar buttons on his "menu" bar to free up vertical workspace. He turns off the Standard toolbar. Yours is actually taking up more than the usual vertical space because you've inserted an extra toolbar.

Wow, that's quite something!Dizzie wrote:Great screenshot Joelle, thanks for showing us. It really is a matter of personal preferences. I have Toolbars all around because I'd rather do a one-click than move both hands to use a keyboard shortcut. Although my hand would probably wish I'd move it from the mouse more often...LOL

I have never liked having one toolbar on the left and the rest at the top, so added the one to the other. Clicking on the horizontal toolbars is easier than clicking on the left, opening sub-menus etc is a painLindaSue wrote:Joëlle, that's not really the same thing that Mark was talking about. I don't really have a shortage of vertical space with my monitor and I agree with you about having tools at the top instead of on the side. My monitor is an LCD but it's not a widescreen one. It's what they call "square" and they don't make them anymore. It's actually a cross between the shape of an CRT monitor and a widescreen so I've got a lot more usable screen area compared to regular widescreen monitors.Joelle wrote:I have never liked having one toolbar on the left and the rest at the top, so added the one to the other. I don't like having toolbars on the left hand side either but I don't mind having them on the right. It seems awkward to me having to move my mouse way over to the left to get to my tools because I'm right handed.

I have 2 monitors, one of which is the type you have. I would have preferred two of the same (no long availabe) rectangular types, but it took forever finding this one!
Such a shame those aren't made any more.
I'll never understand what the obsession is with wide screen. (On widescreen tv everyone looks a funny shape!)

Hi Joelle
go to google and search for Circle.
When some images of circles appear, change you screen resolution til the circle is a circle and not an ellipse. If your graphics card and monitor are compatible enough you should find possibly two settings where the circle displays correctly and then everyone will look normal.
I had this as well, but then I set the resolution of my monitor to match. On widescreen tv everyone looks a funny shape!)

It's on the television, not my monitors for the computer
We still use one old Sony CRT television in the kitchen, the picture is much better than the huge Panasonic in the livingroom, but because of the the shape of the old tv we can't see the left + right side and I can't adjust it as it's pre-widescreen

I use the left monitor for fiddling and the right one for watching the BBC's iPlayer. It's a normal shape, so all is well

As you can see, my monitor isn't quite as square as yours, Joelle. Like I said, it's sort of in between a square shaped monitor and a widescreen one. I love it so much that I paid nearly $100 to have it repaired a couple years ago because I knew I'd never find the same kind again.

Hehehe, your 'command centre', a great title!
Daylight sure helps, I photographed mine after midnight, maybe I should refrain from photographing anything at that time of the night..
Thanks for posting

Re: X6 - Workspace colour and other gripes...
I've been away a few days and realise it might help to post an image of my PSP screen.
This is how it looks now, with no Standard Toolbar. All the Icons I use are moved up to the Main Menu Toolbar line. and this is how it looks if I re-enable the Standard Toolbar. A typical image that is 40% without the toolbar reduces to 38% with it present.
This represents about 5% gain in image height and I find this very useful on my screen where the height / vertical size is at a premium.

That's interesting, Tadjio, how you placed the icons in between the menu items. That seems to make it easier on the eyes for some reason. Do you keep your Materials and Layers hidden?

Thanks, LindaSue. That's exactly why I did it that way - you can find them more by feel then by lookLindaSue wrote:That's interesting, Tadjio, how you placed the icons in between the menu items. That seems to make it easier on the eyes for some reason.
I have a second monitor with ALL my other Toolbars and Palettes.Do you keep your Materials and Layers hidden?
My setup works a treat because I have the maximum possible Image and I don't have to open and close anything else
