Two problems...motion buttons & screwed up menu links.

Post by Sportive »

I have been working on a job for some weeks and have been adding to my DVDWS project as and when I complete new elements for a DVD. Every time I have burned to test, it has worked perfectly...until today. :(

I created 3 video clips to use as motion buttons on my main menu but when I came to burn, I got an "unspecified error". Having never seen this before I assumed the motion button clips must have been to blame so I got rid of them so I could test the rest of the DVD.

However although the DVD burned this time and although all the links worked perfectly within DVDWS, on the main DVD players I have all the links had gone wrong. i.e. the buttons were linking to the wrong place, menu buttons starting video footage instead of returning to menus etc.

All the playlists were still fine and it still worked within DVDWS as it should.... so the questions are:

a) Do motions buttons work and if so how?
b) How can I correct my links problem without re-doing the whole of my DVDWS project?
c) And could these problems be linked in some way?

Many thanks

I had a similar experience in msp7. Had been working on a project, which was fine until I added titles. Getting rid of them didn't get rid of the problem. However, shutting down msp7 and opening it again (w/o the titles) did restore my project to its' previous "working" order.
Have you tried going back into your project after removing the motion buttons? (Although, it's odd that motion buttons would mess you up?)
Hope this helps.

To restore my project I have had to remove all menu links, copy the menus, delete the old menus and re-instate all the links. In the event it only took me about 30 mins to sort but frustrating nevertheless.

I am a little nervous trying the motion buttons again. Should I leave the video clips as avi's and let DVDWS do the conversion?

Andrew:
I wish I could give a more experienced reply. I am rather new to all this as well.
A thought: what about making a copy of your dvd project (menu's, and all) so that you can try different ideas w/o the worry of ruining your project and starting all over again?
Just a couple of comments: I use msp to convert my clips to mpg2; and use motion buttons and haven't had a problem.
Hope this helps.

I have fiddled some more and whilst I have not encountered the wierd screwed up menus again I just can't get motion buttons to work at all, regardless of what format I try to convert to first.

My last effort just left them in MSDV Type 1 AVI format and I still got exactly the same error. This only happens with specifically created videos though because if I leave the buttons to default to motion and to display the videos they link to, it seems to work.

Very frustrating! :x
