Batch Rename Question

Post by jaxman43 »

Is there a way in PSPX5 or X6 to rename a picture (or string of pictures) so that I can have a "Constant such as VACATION_" followed by the create date from the EXIF data as YYYY-MM-DD followed by a sequence number?

Thanks,
Larry

Yes, very easily in fact.

File - > Bath Rename

Along the bottom you'll see a button labeled 'Modify" which will let you change the renaming value.

You can add "Custom Text" and change that value to "VACATION_" then add the Date finally add the Sequence. And you've got exactly what you asked for.

At least I think so, I'm not sure if Date is the date of creation or modification.

Thanks Levi,

I'll try that with a pic that has different dates in the two fields.

Actually, it seems to be putting current date.

Well that's just....weird. And useless.

Next best thing would be a script. Otherwise there are many free programs that can do this as well.

One free program you can use is Irfanview. www.irfanview.com
A mini tutorial is here:

Thanks hartpaul. Downloaded and tried irfanview, but even in the tutorial you had to manually enter the date as part of the name. I was looking for a way to pull the original or create date from EXIF information, perhaps using some variable name, but I can't seem to find a way to do it without knowing some programming language and scripting.

Thanks anyway.

Whenever I do a shoot and have a lot of images from the one day, I renumber and name them on that day. I only have to add the date once in the format style I desire. Thereafter the name and date follows with the images when I dsplit them up to other folders and each image has a unique name/ number that will never be repeated.
Trying to use an automatic program to extract the date from the Exif information (if saved) is another thing and would be nice.

I have used Flexible Renamer: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA014830 ... /FlexRena/

You can first add constant and after that exif data.
