Going nuts

Post by hey_moe24 »

Trying to edit VideoStudio X6 Pro and all I get when trying to make adjustments is > program not responding. I have viewed some of the members answers but looks like they have not found a fix. Sometimes the video I am editing will go forward after it stalls for a bit and sometimes it just locks up to a point I have to close the program down. This is on a clean formatted disk. I only use this hard drive for picture editing and video editing. I have closed down all running programs. I am running a triple monitor set up/ 8 gig of DDR3 ram/ extreme processor/ OC at 4. I have looked in all parts of the registry and nothing in there should be doing this. I am not overheating anything because I am on a water system with a 5 foot water tower. Temps are fine. Any ideas?

Please put one of the video clips you are trying to edit into the timeline - RIGHT click on it and choose 'properties' - when the properties dialogue box opens please copy them (screenshot) and post them here.

Have the same issue. A bit a bigger project and it keeps freezing, just like software 20 years ago.
Regret every cent I just spent updating this piece of cr...p
I use a mix of mp4 (Gopro Hero 2) and .mtp (Sony NEX) files.

dazu -- I think you will find that the problem is the Sony files. I have to confess I had never before heard of .mtp files. And when I look at the specifications for Video Studio X6 on Corel.com, I find as expected that it does not support that format:
Supported input formats*

Video: AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVCHD™, MPEG-4, H.264, BDMV, DV, HDV, DivX, QuickTime, RealVideo, Windows Media Format, MOD (JVC MOD File Format), M2TS, M2T, TOD, 3GPP, 3GPP2
Audio: Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, MP3, MPA, WAV, QuickTime, Windows Media Audio, Ogg Vorbis
Images: BMP, CLP, CUR, EPS, FAX, FPX, GIF, ICO, IFF, IMG, J2K, JP2, JPC, JPG, PCD, PCT, PCX, PIC, PNG, PSD, PSPImage, PXR, RAS, RAW, SCT, SHG, TGA, TIF, UFO, UFP, WMF
Disc: DVD, Video CD (VCD), Super Video CD (SVCD)
So I suspect the only way you can use them in VS is to convert those .mtp files to .m2t, .mts or .m2ts in order to be able to edit them.

I notice, by the way, that Sony's own Movie Studio 12 also does not appear to include that format as acceptable input:
Supported File Formats
Opens: AAC, AA3, AIFF, AVI, BMP, CDA, FLAC, GIF, JPEG, MP3, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MVC, OGG, OMA, PCA, PNG, QuickTime®, RealMedia®, SND, SFA, W64, WAV, WDP, WMA, WMV
(http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/mov ... p/techspec )

Are you sure that is the format and not .mts? Neither of those images you posted shows .mtp as the extension. I am assuming it is the .mov files you are talking about since the .mp4 files clearly come from the GoPro. But as far as I can find on-line, the NEX cameras film using the .mts extension.

In any case, some users find that the very latest version of the Quicktime .mov codec causes problems. I stress only "some" users -- not everyone by any means. Those users find they have to install an older version of the .mov codec -- version 7.5.5 seems to work best.

My mistake, it should read .mts files-

I think I might have found the problem: It happens when ever I switch to the 'Soundmischer' (Ordered the english Version, but for some f%ng reason it comes up German). It looks like the generation of the sound-wave representation takes for ever. When I then do something else it seems to hang. Left it this afternoon for 4 hours running... came back and then I could work as expected. Not very nice, if it does not give a hint to the user :-(

thanks

Is it possible it is "hanging" while it is producing proxy files?

Creation of proxy files takes some time, so you have to be very patient...
