MV's Plugins not working in X6

Post by Joelle »

I have used MV's Plugins for years.
They worked fine in X4, started to not work on a layer in X5, but if I flattened the layer, no problem.
In X6 none work, I get an error message.
I have the latest versions as far as I am aware.

I then pointed the new Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 9 to the same folder (in this case Contrast Mask) to see if it works there. No problem.
Ergo: what's happened to X6 to give these errors. Very annoying.

I had removed the attachment in an attempt to delete this message (not posted here in the first place).

Has anyone had the same experience with MV's Plugins?

Thanks for responding LindaSue.
I wonder what you have under-the-hood that I haven't :-)

Doesn't Windows 7 have trouble with plugins in general anyway? I've read so many times on the PSP forums about Win7 users struggling to get their plugins to work and having to download all sorts of DLL files, etc.

I don't use a lot of plugins, but apart from MV's plugins, they all work (touch wood :-) ).

MV's plugins work fine in Xara Photo & Graphic Designer.
I have pointed that program to the same folder PSP is pointed to, ergo... nah, would I dare say that, better not ..

I have just uninstalled the WireWorm/Color Replacer/Contrast Mask, re-downloaded them and reinstalled them.
The first two seem to work , hurray, but Contrast Mask (which is the one I use most) gives me an Access Violation error message.
Oh such fun :-)

Joëlle

Edit: Contrast Mask works in X5, but not X6..

I did specifically download and try the Contrast Mask plugin because that was one that I didn't already have installed.

Thanks LindaSue, I am pleased to say that Kathy has come up trumps, as she always does and has spotted the reason why it wasn't working. She is so clever!!
In the DEP settings, I still had the previous version of X6 included and not changed it to X6 32-bit.

Simple when you know how :-)

Phew, all done and dusted, what a relief :-)

Just an observation about that Contrast Mask plugin -- I tested against his sample images using PSP's built-in tools and there are at least three that work as well or better: Highlight/Midtone/Shadow, Fill Light/Clarify, and Curves. The latter two have the advantage of also being adjustment layers.

Added:
They also have the important advantage of not having to disable operating system security features.

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done...

I'm running Windows 7 and all of MV's plug-ins that I have are working in X6 32 bit.

The Perfectly Clear plugin that comes with X6 Ultimate is an excellent plugin for images. Also, the Fill Light Clarity feature is excellent for adjusting photographs.
