Sony A99 camera color and noise profiles

Post by gregglee »

After my previous topic I investigated further. I cannot find A99 A37 A58, in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel AfterShot Pro\supportfiles\Profiles\Cameras
or in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel AfterShot Pro\supportfiles\Profiles\NoiseNinja

(There are no profiles in either folder for any of the newly supported cameras of any brand.)

What camera and NN profiles does the A99 use? The A99 sensor is unique.

I know how to generate custom NN profiles using NN registered target chart, though it's a pain to shoot all the images required. By past convention they should be named sonya99_iso200_wbs.bzp etc., but I don't know if ASP will recognize that.

In fact I just checked and ASP generates custom profiles from A99 files that are named sonynex5n_iso200_wbs.bzp etc. (So that may answer my question above: ASP thinks the A99 is a NEX5n. ) NEX5n profiles cannot possibly be appropriate for A99. The sensors differ significantly in every attribute. Noise characteristics are known to be different from reviews. I suspect colors are as well.

My interest is A99, but I also noticed that while there are cameras and NoiseNinja profiles named NEX and NEX5N, there are none for the newly supported NEX models. Also I see RX1 in lensprofiles, but R1 (no X) in cameras and NoiseNinja, while release notes say RX100, not RX1.

I had not visited forum or run ASP since I got an A99, since ASP didn't support it, so initially missed the v 1.2.07 announcement and I missed the NN discussion after the previous release. I can see why there are no new NN profiles.

But what about the camera profiles? Did I have an installation problem (I did try reinstalling), or are camera profiles now handled differently for new cameras?

Since the last release of B5, all camera ICC profiles are integrated into the app.
Only lens and noise profiles are externalized.

OK, I see that in B5 in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bibble Labs\Bibble 5\supportfiles\Profiles there is no folder named "cameras". Only lensprofiles, NoiseNinja, and Printer profiles. Just as you say.

But in C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel AfterShot Pro\supportfiles\Profiles there is a Cameras folder in addition to the other three. And it contain .icc proflies named for cameras. Thus my confusion. What is the Cameras folder for? (newest file date created in the folder is 2011-12-03 )

Correction: The camera profiles are in Bibble5 after all. But they are in a different folder. C:\Program Files (x86)\Bibble Labs\Bibble 5\supportfiles\NewProfiles

Interesting...
Never thought they'll make them external again.
I know that sometimes two cams have a similar enough profile that one is used for both.
But judging from the dates, this also might be a silly build artifact and none of them is used. No files from 2013 and only a handful from 2012....

If I catch Jeff I'll try to find out.
