Project Cleanup

Post by DannyK »

Hi,

I'm finishing a project but to keep my HD a little bit clean I would like to remove the unused video and foto, does anyone has a idea to do this.
I know that you can do this one by one, but if you don't document the used parts how to identify the used and unused ones?

Thanks.

Hello,

There is no way to identify images/videos in a Windows folder which have not been used - you cannot identify clips which HAVE been used either which is something several users keep asking for.

A possible solution to your problem would be to create a "Smart package" of your project - go to "File >> Smart Package" and follow the prompts - this will create a new folder in any location you specify which will then contain all the items used in the project - you could then simply delete every thing in the original folder knowing there was a copy in your smart package folder.

Ok, that's clear, what I would like to ask is within Videostudio to remove the unused miniatuurs.
Because my RAW data stands on a NAS so that is not the problem.

Thx, Danny

I presume by "miniatures" you mean the thumbnails in the libraries - again there is no way to identify which are used and which are not - so just delete them by clicking on them and pressing the delete key on your key board - this does NOT delete the original - only the thumbnail so if you do delete the wrong one just import it to the library again.

but as previous - apart from your memory there is no way of indicating what is in and what is out.

Is there an option somewhere to cause VS6 to place a flag similar to the proxy file or video file type flags over the image(s) in the library if that image/video/audio is currently in use anywhere in the timeline?

No. As Brian said pretty clearly above:
There is no way to identify images/videos in a Windows folder which have not been used - you cannot identify clips which HAVE been used either which is something several users keep asking for.
And you can't do it within VS either.

Hello,

Something along these lines might help you achieve what you want.

1) Add a new folder. Name it what you want.

2) Select that folder (it will be empty).

3) Select all the video clips in the main track timeline. There will be a yellow highlight around the whole track if you've done this correctly.

4) Drag the clips into the new folder.

5) Drag any video clips you used in overlay tracks to the new folder.

6) Delete the original folder (if you want).

7) Save the project (if you want).
